Serious question
How do people on the board boast such strong opinions when they do not even watch the games in there entirety?
Sure the sabres suck, but isn't a fan or knowledgeable fan supposed to watch the team either way?
Risto and ror might have been awesome in the 2nd half of the game, but you didn't see it. - Boss34
Right, my fandom is in question because I'm sick of watching a team that is worse than the team i hated 10 years ago.
Being out of town has in perks, I rarely watch this season and only get the updates on my phone now.
This team is garbage, so it is no longer appointment television for me. |

serious question as I turned the game off last night halfway through it
I am a fan disgusted and impatient with the lack of results for the last 10 years
new owner says money is no issue anymore
pegula has owned the sabres for 7 years now, and shows no signs of having a clue
w/o hiring a hockey czar to run this thing, what can the sabres do to turn this around because the joke is no longer funny - homiedclown
I hear a lot of people say "We need to hire a hockey czar " Not sure I really agree with this approach. If we can't hire the right GM & coach do you really think Terry will hire the right "hockey czar"? What if he picks the wrong Hockey Operations guy who then hires the wrong GM & coach. |

Those were my thoughts as well. I just feel like they are been trying too hard to create this winning environment/culture artificially.
We hired Pat Lofontain to basically do that and he hired Murray. Who then destroyed everything. |

Not directed at you but since i cant seem to find homie's post this chain here is the next best thing.
I like most would really want a president or a VP that is "hockey savvy" rather than market savvy like Russ Brandon.
But in general I dont think you actually need that specific hire if you've got the right guy managing the day to day (botts).
There's a lot that goes into it so im not trying to dismiss the value or the role of a hockey czar but in the most basic form the difference here is that the hockey guy knows the value of time and patience.
That's more or less what Shanahan's greatest accomplishment in Toronto has been, he convinced ownership to buy into that and hired the right guys to make it a reality.
The time for a czar would've been 4 years ago to keep Murray from peeing on the rug. But it happened and I can only hope that Pegula has learned, certainly seems so considering his recent hire is basically the anti murray.
Just like the fans bought it years ago with the tank, they'll buy into the patient approach too cause frankly not much choice (also thanks to Tim).
I guess long story short im trying to say hiring that hockey guy is mostly to stop what happened with TM from happening. But it already happened and it appears that they've learned so as far as the future goes I think it should be okay so long as they're on the same page and understand that they need to be patient. |

Ladies, Toronto made it to the playoffs and lost in round 1. Stop comparing apples to oranges.
I think Buffalo should build a church for Pegula. The guy values power, so let's give it to him. Once he becomes consumed in that we can finally sign the hockey czar we all truely desire:

Great post
How fun is it to purchase any business, (especially sports) and let someone else make the decisions?
Tpegs bought the team to be involved. That will never change.
He has been successful in other ventures, 3 billion net worth. Sabres are going to change soon. |

Yea, when they are good, I have more fun watching is what you are saying in this sentance.
I'm guessing 99% of others do to.
But actually I don't fly any colors of hockey in this city because where I am people would be like WTF is that?
Why would I pay $199 to watch this team, when they are showing nothing in terms of improvement with no end in sight.
I watch when they are nationally televised and i still root, but apathy is setting in. |

So because he was involved in the oil business means he is good at running a sports franchise. I mean i get it, those things are extremely identical. |

Not directed towards you, guy.
Because Housley played an offensive style game makes our defensive game bad? Another comparison, but why should that matter? Some coaches never made it to the NHL, or played. I dont think its fair to judge an organization that is losing on that. |

Clearly:
I'm not stating that its a fact:
tpegs was successful in oil its not identical to hockey
I'm just stating that:
he is successful and probably feels he will be with the sabres too. And may not need help. I imagine there is some ego in being a multi billionaire |
