It’s a slippery slope getting rid of proven nhl D men when your icing a young roster ....everyone wants to get top value for aging players but they also have value helping out the kids and allowing young players to make mistakes and not pay for it.

We're 29th whether Edler and Tanev are here or not. Kind of been there done that. Edler is a mistake machine because we have no choice but to give him minutes and Tanev is NEVER healthy. There really is no 'leadership' or 'mentoring' value there. I get what you are saying but it's time to move on and if MDZ and Guddy are the guys we move on with fine...just have to keep adding and drafting.

i cant see how it could be any worse, consider in the 9 games Boeser played, we lost the last 8 of them!

I'd say get rid of Edler (not easy but a pipe dream) keep Tanev
Get rid of one of Hutton or Gudbranson - and call up Holm, bout time that guy got a shot, cant be any worse than what we already have here.

People act like 10 games will ruin a player. If 10 games is all it takes then he wasn’t a good prospect to begin with.

I would keep Gaudette far away from this sh*t-Show, particularly at the end of the (really ugly losing) season when morale should be at an all time low. Same goes with Demko.
To much going on at the end of the season to compound things. Does Benning get a new contract? Do the Sedins want an extension?

- Marwood

They brought Boeser in at the end of last year's sh!t show.
Seemed to work out okay.

Of course if a player cannot handle 10 games he never would’ve never gotten as far as he did already.

Gilman on Jake Virtanen: "It's not a question of whether he has the tools, it's whether he possess the tool box."

I had a laugh at Gilman a couple of months ago. He was asked if they projected Horvat to be as good as he is and still trending towards bonified 1st line C and he couldn't help himself. I remember Gillis and him projecting Bo as a 3rd liner D specialist with 2nd line upside... now they knew all along.

LSD would be required to not sign him and give games at the end of the year if the alternative is him going back to college.
- CanuckDon

I'm not agaisnt signing him, I just don't understand the rush to add him to the team at the end of the season.
If they sign him do they have to play him? Real question.

The chicken little thing over the last 2/3 years was the act. I thought Subban’s feelings and acting like Sbisa’s 3 year contract was the end of this franchise would clue some people in but I guess not

I hate Gillis but is the most bizarre comment I’ve seen regarding him.

“He traded and drafted for a guy that turned out better than he had hoped for”

It was Canuck fans who were really freaking out that they didn’t take the Oilers pick and draft Nurse or that they didn’t draft Nichkushin.

They don't have to play him at all. I think its just more along the lines of lets get that contract signed so he doesnt pull a Vesey. Slotting him in on the 4th line next year and letting him learn ala Horvat style is the hope from most I believe?

He'll be finishing up his 3rd year of school so there's probably some thought of him going back and getting it done, but then he could be a free agent by August.

Whatever they decide to do with Benning, I hope they keep Brackett. Be even nicer if Benning stayed too. If not as GM, then in a different role. But that'd be weird.

Who knows tho? Maybe JB is missing being a scout. Maybe that's what makes him tick? Maybe he doesn't wanna be the GM anymore?

- storm88

If they fired Benning, unlike Gillis, he'd get another chance in the NHL I think. Possibly Seattle.

I think after a couple of seasons removed from Benning, we'll look back at the core he drafted and be forced to say he's done better than any of our other GM's at turning over the roster.

The time will be right to move on soon one way or the other after next season. We are going to be busting at the seems with young players after the next draft and college free agency period. We'll need a more capable GM who will have to balance trading a lump of vets and some of the young talent that is built up too much in a particular position to fill in elsewhere. I would not go as far as calling JB a drafting genius but he's lived up to his reputation and done well so far.

I think our next GM will get a ton of credit but he'll have a lot to work with and be in a very fortunate position.

His annoying coach could be the problem. Sounds like he’s going to try his best to keep him around for next year. Let the damn kid get paid.

During his first 2 seasons here I never thought I’d be agreeing with this statement, but I do.

Now how about the stupid ass contracts and trades he made? His horrible drafting? And lol he probably drafts some 20 year QMJHL’er with good Corsi instead of Gaudette.

He did hire Brackett, but Benning promoted him.

I hope it’s still as GM of the Canucks. Outside of Eriksson(who I still believe will be better as the team improves), none of his bad moves have been bad enough to change the long-term outlook of this team. But his good moves(Boeser and EP) definitely have changed the long-term outlook in a great way.
