Now how about the stupid ass contracts and trades he made? His horrible drafting? And lol he probably drafts some 20 year QMJHL’er with good Corsi instead of Gaudette.

He did hire Brackett, but Benning promoted him.

You can spin the negativity all you want. All GM's make questionable trades. You can't deny he laid the foundation of the new core with Horvat & Guadette. Bo's out now, look what happens when he's not playing!

You're so negative.

That regime was overrated, outside of Ehrhoff(who sucked ass in the playoffs), the entire core that lead the 2011 team was brought in by previous regimes.

Drafting was a joke, made some horrible trades. They probably gave the team janitor a NMC contract.

I hope it’s still as GM of the Canucks. Outside of Eriksson(who I still believe will be better as the team improves), none of his bad moves have been bad enough to change the long-term outlook of this team. But his good moves(Boeser and EP) definitely have changed the long-term outlook in a great way.

he'll be fired.

aquillini wants win now and rebuild at the same time.

unpossible.

They don't have to play him at all. I think its just more along the lines of lets get that contract signed so he doesnt pull a Vesey. Slotting him in on the 4th line next year and letting him learn ala Horvat style is the hope from most I believe?

He'll be finishing up his 3rd year of school so there's probably some thought of him going back and getting it done, but then he could be a free agent by August.

I hope he isn't stupid enough to fire JB, but if he is then I hope he sells this team asap before destroying this franchise by hiring another first time GM who needs 2 years to really learn the job.

Realistically, it's basically just Horvat and glass man Tanev. And he traded Schneider(Nonis pick) to get Horvat lol

He promoted Crawford over Brackett.

I'd say get rid of Edler (not easy but a pipe dream) keep Tanev
Get rid of one of Hutton or Gudbranson - and call up Holm, bout time that guy got a shot, cant be any worse than what we already have here.

- Brooks_Light

Even if we don't move anyone right away, what's the harm in calling up Holm and sitting the mistake machine Edler?

Ken Holland will extend the Sedins for 3 more years with a NMC and Edler to the same.

I'm done talking about this, you're either trolling or just a hater of JB getting brainwashed by social media and idiot fans. Take some time to break down the significant things JB has done, good and bad and you'll see that he's done better than most GM's despite being in a tough spot taking over a mess and with a meddling owner. I used to hate him too, but then I realized that he simply doesn't get enough credit for the good he's done and gets destroyed for the mistakes, which won't even matter in the long haul. No one ripped Gillis this much for his Booth/Ballard deals and stupid signings like Sturm for example.

i didn't say he was a backup, but i'm pointing out that he got some games in and he faired out fine. I also agreed that in Schneiders case a 3rd year was fine and necessary. However, I think I gave you a bunch of good examples as to the opposite side of the argument, I wasn't simplifying anything, just pointing out factual evidence of goalies that played 2 years and then made the jump successfully.
- Brooks_Light

Alright then, Rask you used. He played two years in a finnish Men's league and then two in the AHL after being drafted. So doesn't really fit your narrative. Tim thomas played all over the place, 3 years in the AHL and 3 in Various leagues, niot sure why you cited either of them. There really isn't a generalizable time they need to play in developmental leagues, Demko could be the backup next year but I think he would benefit from getting a 40-50 start season under his belt first. As I said, I don't mind him coming up this year and next for some starts. But bringing him up to sit on the bench seems kind of silly.

Man.
Vey?
Willie D really pulls for his guys, doesn't he.

From medicine hat to the canucks to team Canada.
It's actually a pretty cool story for the guys that were plying their trade overseas and get a chance to play on the olympics.

- dbot

There was no way Vey was not getting added to the roster. He's having one of the best non NHL seasons.

I'm not agaisnt signing him, I just don't understand the rush to add him to the team at the end of the season.
If they sign him do they have to play him? Real question.

- Marwood

Well they don’t have to play him but lying to the kid may not be the best way to start the relationship

Yeah, he was going to get picked even if WD wasn't the coach. People forget how good he was in the AHL before making the leap to the nHL full-time. And this tournament is basically filled with AHL all-star type of talent.

You're suggesting Demko stay in the AHL for 4 years? Thats pretty rare, most of the starting goalies currently in the NHL spent 2 years, maybe part of a third year before beginning their careers - i'd like to see Nilsson fawk off and Demko start next year as Markstroms backup. Don't think thats rushing him at all.
- Brooks_Light

A show down for the back up position in the pre season between Demko and Nilly. I wouldn't just hand it to Demko and send a goalie on his way that's for sure. Demko could quickly work his way back to Utica for all we know.

Has he ever given a NMC clause before? Seems like a very staunch contract negotiator to me.

Edit: upon further inspection he has given out A LOT of them
