Yah i hated algebra. Math 11 and 12 were tough for me. That and the fact i found myseld checked out of school at that point.
- Codes1087

I learnt algebra in my 30's and it was surprising easier than I imagined. Like most other things, if you do them over and over and over again you eventually get it.

Good luck moving him.
Buyout candidate?
Chris Higgens comes off the books at the end of this year.

- dbot

Buying out LE wont give us much of a savings cap wise because his contract is mostly signing bonuses which have to be paid even in a buyout. In fact it would cost us 2 mil more in cap hit than playing him for the rest of his contract.

+/- has underlying numbers analytic types don’t look for. Eg a big forecheck & no assist is a huge +. +/- also says a lot about 5v5 play. No stat is a stand alone stat.
- Nighthawk

Actually that's exactly what analytic types do look for.....

Sorry I don't follow. What does Demers have to do with Gudbranson to Toronto?

Edit: my bad I see what you're saying now, the expected return for Guddy was Demers so we shouldn't expect much. I still think a team like Toronto gearing up for playoffs would pay more however.

- NorthNuck

McGinn was traded to Ana for a 2nd in the end. McGinn was traded straight up for Demers. So Guddy is worth only a 2nd.

What real variables are there for plus minus? PP and PK aren't counted. You are either on for the goal or not.

Who cares if you back check hard, steal the puck, D man passes the puck to a forward and he scores. The guy back checking doesn't get an assist. Back checking isn't even a stat. It helped your team score though. Plus-Minus to me is players that can do the little things to help your team win.

- manvanfan

Only can get a - on the PP
A + only on the PK

+/- can show the intangibles & little things a player does to help teams win. Coaches see this but fans don’t coach so.... lol

They need to look at the game, not a stat sheet. Game will tell you much more.

Thanks Carol -- as always, an enjoyable read!

I'm enthused about Dahlen's continued recovery from mono and the success he is having at Timra. I think moving up to the SHL for the balance of this season would be another positive step.

As for Team Canada at the Olympics...the best I can come up with is that at least they won't lose to an official Team Russia!

Yeah, I gotta side with manvanfan and nighthawk on this one. I don’t need numbers to tell me who’s a good player and who’s a bad one, same with teams.

Numbers are okay to look at if you don’t have time to watch other teams and players, but if you do then I’d rather trust what I’m watching than some shooting differential stat.

Also, Thanks Carol!

McGinn was traded for a 2nd in a season he ended up with 22 goals 40 points.
McGinn was traded for a Demers in a season he ended up with 9 goals and 17 points.

That said, I would be really happy if Guddy brings in a 2nd.

My guess is a stalled prospect.

Look at the Canucks Corsi stats, they don’t add up to how I’d rank the players.

Maybe it's just me but when I watch a hockey game. Always on cable so I can pause and rewind. After a big play, goal or anything. I tend to go back and see where it went right or where it went wrong. I don't see the puck go into the net, I see how the play developed to allow it. Who missed what coverage. I always get to catch up thanks to commercials and intermissions.

Toronto offered Nielsen and a pick(rumour). It's probably close to a deal like that or same as Goldy and a lesser pick.

1 Brock Boeser shot from the shot is 100 times more dangerous than a Gaunce shot from the half wall.

That’s the type of stuff Corsi is criticized for.

So what do you see when the Canucks get scored on when Hutton is on the ice?

I'll just state how dumb your question is first of all, then i'll answer it for you.

Every goal is different.

I'll ask you what the analytics community thinks of Hutton being on the ice for a goal against?
