He may have been right but Stamkos basically developed as the games went on and he took it upon himself 2 train that summer to be the best player

And he was almost traded to the Rangers

Melrose didn't want him on the team. He did nothing to help him develop, that's why he was fired after 12 games or whatever it was.

Edit: 16 games. You don't fire a coach after 16 games especially going 5-7-4, it's not great, but Tocchett went 0-11 and kept his job this year.
