tree has a huge reach and his power is insane too as we've seen.
Hope he returns here

I hope his KHL team goes bankrupt to force his hand

Perfect world:

-Win the lottery and Draft Dahlin
-Tryamkin comes back
-Sign Daniel Brickley NCAA free agent
-Get another 1st and draft another RHD - Bouchard, Woo, Dobson, Wilde

Defense rebuilt in a season

Not flashy, doesn't produce much offense. He's a good second pairing guy. Usually pretty steady and mostly goes unnoticed (for good reasons). Blocks a lot of shots, too.

He'll almost definitely go to UFA this year, unless Tavares walks. Whoever signs him will probably overpay for what he is and fans will resent him for it and say he stinks, but he's a good player. He'd make any blueline much deeper, but he's not a game-changing talent.

Thought he might be a solid target for the Canucks.

Yeah, he'd be a good add for anyone that can afford the raise he's gonna get. I have a feeling he'll get something like 5 years, $30M.

Somewhat unrelated...is there a chance the Canucks look to move Tanev? Or are they more likely to hang onto him?

Doughty wasnt even 1st over all though.

Behind Stamkos. come on man. He was heralded as the next Neidemeyer in that draft.

Id hope they dont sign him if thats what its going to take. Would rather just bring back Hamhuis for much less term and dollars.

He was obviously highly respected he went 2nd OA that wasnt really my point. Was more to do with Dahlin and the best Defense prospects ever.

Like how many Crosby or McDavid types have there been but in terms of defense. I wouldnt say Doughty was one of those guys but a level below.

That's just purely my guess. His cap hit is $3.3M now and the UFA crop isn't looking so stellar this year. If Carlson makes it to UFA, he'll be the prized free agent...but de Haan would easily be in the top-3 most sought-after defensemen. Market is going to drive his price way up.

Heard this AM the Hawks have inquired recently about Vancouver D Michael del Zotto. $3 mil AAV thru next season. Not sure what the Hawks would offer.

Most of the best defenseman ever have gone top5, not 1OA so I don't think your logic has legs to stand on. Dahlin is a great prospect, I'm just saying most great d prospects get overshadowed by big forward picks. Only top dman ever taken first was Potvin. Most go 2-10, 2 being the historically best dmen including niedemeyer, doughty, Hedman, pronger.

Ya you missed my point. Im not talking who is the best and where they were drafted. It was do with guys coming in to the draft year how many had the Crosby type hype. So yes Potvin would be that guy. Was more to do with how totally unheard of it is for this type of player coming in to the draft.

Likely to hold on to him unless and kings ransom was offered(would take more than Bellows to get him). Gudbranson is the guy we move as we need to keep 1 of them and it looks more and more like the Canucks don't want to re-sign him and/or vice versa

Again, I do see your point. I just fundamentally disagree with it. When Hedman was coming into the league there were a lot of guys thinking he should maybe be going first. Same with Pronger. Same with Seth Jones. Dmen just don't generate the same hype, doesn't mean some guys don't recognize it. It just means that's the way the media/league is- love forwards, centers in particular. Dahlin is just benefiting from a year of no standout Center to overshadow him.

I figured they'd be getting rid of Gudbranson, just was unsure about Tanev. Makes sense to hang onto him, they're not under any pressure to move him.
