Right now, a player getting sent down to minors get 1.025 million buried and that will change again next year as the cap increases.
A player like Paul Martin has a 4.85 million contract and is at a cap hit of 3.83 while in minors.
Down the road here, as he becomes even more of a dud, the best option capwise will be to send him to minors.
Why eat salary and give up picks too get rid of him. - Reubenkincade
Eriksson is better at hockey them guance and Chaput. You send him down only if he's the worse player on the team. |

Chaput is up only as ahl depth this season, which we are not referring to. Beyond this season when his NMC, is no longer in place. More likely in another season or 2 that option is more realistic.
Gaunce or Granlund will be shipped out by deadline for something to a team looking for defensively responsible forward. A team like Islanders, Oilers, Leafs could use a player or 2 that have something of a defensive conscience.
After that I am not sure who Erickson could be considered better than as a winger. |

Do I want to? NO.
But we are currently in a disastrous situation on the back end.
If at 5 its tkachuck(and I like this tkachuck better than the other) or trade back to 8 for Dobson and pick up a 2nd and 3rd for example im doing it. Im then packaging those picks with other picks to climb back in to the 1st for another defensemen if one i like is available.
No defense means we will need to rebuild again like buffalo currently has too. They are the prime example of how not to build a team. Nylander over sergachev was a massive mistake. - mauryballstein
Disagree, I am taking Tkachuk over Dobson plus a 2nd everyday and it's not close. This organization can't pass on first line talent. We need everything. Use our 2nd-7th round picks on D if you have to but always go bpa at the top |

I'd offer a6th round pick but it might ruin our draft position.... |

Yep, look where JB got Tryamkin. I get the sense of urgency on D, they need to get creative. |

That's what happens when you trade away superstar talent.
- bloatedmosquito
Subban - 11 points in 28 games
Holm - 20 points in 33
Jordan - midget that can't play D
Holm - good size can sort of play D
Holm - free asset out of Sweden ----Subban - carreer is over |

I would say Holland's ready for a change now that he's got Detroit in terrible shape - LeftCoaster
Holland did leave the club in a bit of a mess yes...but three cups in 18 years in DET, if we had that here I honestly would not give a shat what state the team was in presently. |

Those first two Cups had little to do with Holland and he got lucky with his scouts drafting Datsyuk and Zetterberg in the 6th and 7th rounds.
He rode those gifts to the bitter end. |

But when put in the position to win it all they did. And boy they were an exciting team to watch.
When a GM is given an opportunity like that, the good ones don't (frank) it up. |

12th season 34 playoff games and a whopping 14 points in those playoff games.
Great mentor to have.
The great Chris Kontos had better success than this dud.
The soonèr we get rid of losers like him the better. Imo |

He took over the team in the summer of 1997 and had an open check book to sign Shanahan (after the trade) to add to Yzerman, Fedorov, Lidstrom, Larionov, Kozlov, Draper, Vernon and company which were already there.
He does nothing for me. |

They took a chance and got burned. Eriksson did look like he was returning to form his final year in BOS with a 63pt season which mimicked his time in DAL. Can't hit on all UFA's. |

The bigger issue is the team wasn't in a position to compete yet they/Benning goes out and signs an expensive free agent. |

Don't agree on Kesler. One trading partner. Kesler screwed this organization. |
