Jim Benning tells Sportsnet's Iain MacIntyre ; "“I’m going to keep doing the work.” My hope is I get to continue on and keep drafting and developing these players. I’d love to come back. But that’s not my decision.” #Canucks

Not necessarily see ya. I heard Canucks will keep him drafting but move on as GM.

Will wait for someone to ask Source?

Need to ask.....would you, after being a GM for 4 yrs, accept being being demoted to scouting with Van when you could go sign with another team in a higher position? Why would Benning sign on as a scout with Van?

Yeah . Drafting is only one part of being a GM . There are so many things that go into being a GM that you can't spend all your time scouting. Jim is a good scout but a so so GM

He wouldn't, for another club sure, but not in Vancouver.

I was a foreman with a company for nine years and didn't like being the guy in charge . I went back to being just one of the guys and got offered the foreman position with another company and I declined.

So my answer would be yes I would step down and do something I like over money

Give him a title that suggests a promotion, let him work with the scouts and go on the road. The new GM deals with the media, and other day to day business.

That’s exactly why I’m confused that so many ppl on here think he should just be a scout in Van. Like Vantel said, he’s a so so GM.....not the worst in the league. If Van doesn’t want him as a GM the, if I’m JB, I’d tell Van to shove it. JB will have options if not resigned by Van....as the GM.

I’m a believer in job satisfaction over making tonnes of money too. But this isn’t about money, and how do we know JB doesn’t like and want to be a GM? He could be a scout with 30 others teams, why stay in Van, he doesn’t owe them poop.

If we all in here think that all of JB’s moves are his and his only we’re crazy. TL, which I’m not a fan of, is just as responsible for the last 4 yrs as JB. If one goes, they both should go.

Without the Aquilini handcuffs I'd like to think he would've done a better job, but you play the hand your dealt and I'm sure he knew the deal from his interview process.

No doubt he's being micromanaged. What seasoned GM in his right mind would take a job like that?

I agree. And your right, he knew the deal when he signed.

Unless you have drafted well, it’s pretty hard in this league to turn things around over night and JB was left with nothing in the system. He tried making deals to get younger but they all didn’t turn out. He has drafted fairly well since taking over. Time will tell on the job he’s done but I think he’s done enough to garner 1 extension of 2/3 yrs to see how this turns out.

Totally agree. Similar experiences I worked in manufacturing building Fire Trucks and Boats for close to 20 years and at time was supervising over 40 people...never again.

Been offered managerial jobs here with my current position and nope...declined.

Less cash but super happy.

He also mentioned drafting/developing.

"Director of Player Drafting and Development"

Lets him continue to be in charge of the two things he loves most in hockey, and doesn't sound like a demotion.

Because this is now his poop show. He may have been called into the principles office too many times and he just wants to get back to drafting and developing just like he said in this mornings quote to Daliwhal . He never said I want to be GM he said I want to continue drafting and developing . I am sure at age 54 he doesn't want to be taking more public speaking and math courses, he just wants to get back to hockey

But it is from where he is at right now. And he could do that with a number of other teams....why stay in Van and do it?
