Yes. Yes it is. - Marwood
The one consistent trait of this organization is owner/management implosion.
Of all the negative influences on this franchise over the past 48 years (schedule, injuries, conspiracies, whatever) poor management/ownership has had the biggest impact. They are their own worst enemies. |

Created by Botchford, Gallagher and the rest of the bitter crew at 1040. They love creating hysteria. - Marwood
It's actually created by Benning without a new contract and being unavailable for 6 weeks .
He is not the only GM without a contract under scrutiny. It goes with the territory . He is our GM so that why the Vancouver market are talking |

It's the only way they are going to survive on the dial. Pander to a large segment of the fan base. It's a smart move.
As you pointed out, fans just need to be aware of 1040's agenda so to put things into perspective. |

There are 4 or 5 others but only our market is freaking out about it.
Calgary went through it ( quietly) last season and Treliving was re-signed in the off season with out the cloud of Armageddon threatening the team. |

We've had a long list of poopty GM's as well. I'll never forget the time when Burkie threw the team's owner under the bus during the Bertuzzi contract negotiations. Really poopty move.
Pat's been the best out of the bunch I guess but even that didn't turn out well.
Oh well, there is always next season. |

No it's not .
There is a big cloud of suspicion about Benning and the GM position , all he had to say was we are in negotiations things are going well. I like being a GM.
All he said was I will continue to do the work I want to keep on drafting and developing . Stan Smyl gets promoted to VP of washroom care Jim Benning Player D&D - VANTEL
Benning said this, and I quote.
“We’re going to keep doing things the right way, and I’d love to come back. But that’s not my decision.”
He's not saying he'd love to come back in a different role, he's saying he'd love to come back and keep working.
The way the English language works, he's saying he wants the job.
I know you hate the fact that I stubbornly express facts and opinion that at times are not the same as yours, I get it, we all like to be right all the time. Unfortunately the media has created something out of nothing regarding Bennings future and some, including yourself have bought it hook line and sinker.

I have read the statement, and to me he is saying "I am going to keep doing the work".
His position is as GM and he has job duties associated to the GM classification, so if he says I am going to keep doing the work, that would indicate that he plans on fulfilling the duties associated with the position.
One more question, if you believe the media reports that are stirring up any type of controversy regarding the canucks, do you also believe all media outlets regarding everything, personally I wouldn't think so, so why hang your hat (and that's everyone that buys into media hype) on these sources that have Benning gone. |

"it's the story that won't go away", I think I heard Pratt say that.
they have their ball and are running with it. like the mole hill they are ready to die on.
when JB is reupped or replaced, they will move their focus
I'll never forget Pratt going on about firing WD, WD is fired, and WD goes on 1040 and Pratt is all mushy with him. |

The media does it's thing, but Benning has to know the statement he made is going to cause a frenzy. These guys a media savvy. JB could have made a comment that would have put all this to bed. But he didn't.
There is a message in that statement. Not sure to whom. |

I had my suspicions well before the media started chiming in. I have been questioning Bennings return all summer. I think he is okay at drafting , this year in particular has been good.
I think his trades have been decent.
I think his contracts have been poor. I think his UFA signings have been poor and will continue to be.
I think his farm teams have been underwhelming even though Comets have only lost one of seven as of late.
I don't think ownership want the front man that looks and talks like Colombo.
These are all my opinions just like you defend yours , I defend mine

To me, and it’s just my impression, mine alone, that statement reads as: “I like my job”, “I think I’ve done well so far, but we are only part way through the initial process”, “I want to continue but that is out of my hands and my employer has not indicated one way or the other if I will be here next season”.
There must be a period where executives are free to interview with other teams, like players? Or do the need to wait until their contract expires? There is a serious “grass is greener” risk in allowing Jim to walk... |

Absolutely a grass is greener scenario. Problem is if they thought he was doing a slam dunk job the deal would have been done already. And even though Gillis did make the playoffs almost every year FA still fired him. The big question is what is going on in Aquilinis head |

Elliot Friedman on the radio just said that marc bergevin is the most active GM in the league right now. Fully committed to a rebuild. Has been told that Price and Mete are the only untouchables on the team.
Friedman reiterated that marc bergevin has stated its not a rebuild, but rather a "reset" |

Absolutely, this is the great thing about this site, we all get to articulate our positions in a fair non-judgmental forum...I'm laughing just typing that.
There are quite a few posts that are all about the Sedins or Benning, and there is nothing wrong with that, I'm just pointing out that there is another side to the misinformation that gets bantered about.
Again debate is great, and healthy, but closed minded blind hatred isn't. (I am not accusing you of blind hatred, manvanfan maybe not you) |
