I'm not as pissed about the Canucks past 30 years as most. I moved from Toronto. Imagine if I'd stayed and had their playoff success for my entire 47 years. I at least got in 2 SCF here. For me, it could have been a lot worse than you guys who grew up here.
I'm nowhere near satisfied of course. I still hunger for a cup like the rest.

Things are different now but Burke, under the rules of his time, was probably the best builder the Canucks have ever had, followed by Quinn, trades were such a huge part of building back then.
Now you've gotta be a great drafter to be successful and a good manager of the cap, at least in my opinion. Drafting is a big part of any era since it came around, but it's the most important thing now is what I'm getting at. |

What's your favorite part ?
The contracts , the farm clubs , the trades or the UFA signings or do all roads lead back to drafting? |

I don't have a favorite part, if he's successful at anything it'll be drafting imo, but we won't know that for a few years yet. |

Best case he’s a mediocre GM who does good and bad but he does leave behind a future core to build around for a more savvy GM to run with.
It’s happened in the NHL and other sports before. A controversial GM divides a fan base with his moves/strategy. Ends up leaving the next guy with a couple of building blocks but also an anchor or 2, and the next GM takes the organization to contender status.
I was talking to a friend about the Raptors today. Their previous GM brought in both of their current star players but did some stupid poop too. The new GM built around those 2 and now they’re a perennial 50 win team that’s a threat to go to the ECF. If the NBA wasn’t so (frank)ed up they’d have some hope to win it all, but nonetheless the next regime took the good and bad the previous regime left and built on it.
Hopefully Pettersson, Boeser and Horvat are those guys. Ideally a dman like OJ or the first round pick this year pans out as well. |

With four drafts under his belt, including some excellent draft positions, 6th/5th/5th overall, I should hope he leaves a few core players behind....should he leave.
Ultimately I think they need some stability at the GM position, it only takes a few years to piss it all away. John Milford did some excellent building back in the late 70's early 80's, until his untimely death, Harry Neale (frank)ed it all away in short order. |

Didn't realize this until now, Mike Gillis was the second longest tenured GM in Canucks history at only six years. |

No...it was definitely warranted, but he's learned and he's getting better after five years. Hopefully, if our guy is re-signed, he's learning to be better at his job too. |

I won't edit my last comment. I'll make a new one. "he's learned" What exactly did he learn? He traded a 4th round pick for Colin Wilson and then traded away one of there better players. Team starts winning and you call it "learning". You're (frank)ed.
You are definitely (frank)ed. |
