Is it Doll-een

Or Doll-in

In an alternate universe, Trump bought the bills and they became the Mar-a-lago marauders and Marco Rubio is president

I used to come to a similar conclusion, but if you look at his GM hires, they weren't exactly outlandish. Both Tim Murray and Jason Botterill came in highly credentialed and were praised quite highly by national media outlets. Now, you could argue that he should have canned Regier from day 1, and I absolutely didn't like the LaFontaine hire the moment it happened, but plenty of time has gone by for those fiascos to have been fixed.

it was headed that way no matter who the owner was. all the best guys had peaked and were on expiring deals.

Absolutely no high end talent in the system due to "safe" drafting.

for that era, sure.

Although Id probably take Myers+Sekera over any defensive duo we have in the nhl right now.

Thats on TM, not TP

Why would we give him credit. GMTM had four years and all the assets in the world to deal with, and his returns on the blueline were kulikov, gorges and bogosian.

Botts had basically nothing to work with his first off season. Yeah he brought in low risk guys but they're irrelevant. you're not going to get much value out of them if they have to play over their heads (like scandella right now).

There are current players on this roster that GMTM paid major assets to be integral parts of the team that are barely secondary players.

That's why we're getting outclassed, not because in the 15 mins he plays Beaulieu sucks.

Edit: I like that there was no mention of Lehner and CJ in the original post.

Pretty much agree with all this

I’m still good with acquiring Kane & ROR...

-but Lehner doesn’t look like our goalie for the present, let alone future, so that was a big miss considering he paid a 1st for him

-Sam & Nylander are not on a path we hoped they’d be

-and he not only utterly failed to bring in quality NHL defensemen... he unquestionably and inexcusably IGNORED building up our defensemen prospects

-plus, he apparently had no answers for why Rochester was still a joke

-and his attempt to get us back to the playoffs quickly was a bust

GMTM set us back
He didn’t move us forward

Idk how anyone could even argue for him at this point?

The point isn’t that GMTM did more good than bad - he didn’t. He did a lot of bad things. But he acquired a few good players.

Has Botterill acquired a single good player?

it's hard to know whether this was the actual plan but in the summer a bunch of us mentioned there really is no way to fix the mess without drafting high and waiting it out.

It appears he came to a similar conclusion.

- Sabresfan-365

Are we forgetting in Botterill's presser where he said he wasn't going to do anything and leave the kids in Rochester?

Hard to say. The Sabres still haven't found Eichel's go-to winger yet.

Smith?
Mittelstadt? Maybe a center
Nylander?
Baptiste? (Great job by Housley to not use him so that Nolan, Wilson and Larsson can play btw. Really forward looking on that one)

Hopefully one of those guys click

- jcragcrumple

I wouldn't be surprised if that doesn't happen for quite some time. The Pens are still looking for Crosby's go to winger. Kessel was supposed to be the last iteration, but that too, failed.

2 years of trying and not really getting anywhere and then 2 years of tanking and 3 years of trying to dig out of that. Tanking may or may not work, but one thing that's indisputable is that it really sets you back especially if you do it the way the Sabres did, sell everything that isn't nailed down, then pull that poop up and sell it too. The Leafs at least held onto guys like Kadri and JVR.

In retrospect, maybe Nolan was the worst choice of Tank coach, he actually motivated his guys to go out and play, so they had to keep getting rid of guys.
