They do have bigger problems
But trading for Kane shows Tavares they want to try & win NOW...
not in the future

And obviously they’d want to sign Kane if they traded for him

Yeah...
the Isles do have bigger problems

What would u do to convince Tavares to stay?

- jdfitz77

$100M with a no trade clause should get it done. Nobody else can pay him that much. Unless he goes to florida or texas or nevada to avoid state income tax maybe.

Gotta show him the bigger picture. It's not so much about just this year, he wants to know that the 8 years he spends here will be good to him.

They've gotta pitch whatever plan they have for the future and hope Tavares likes what he hears. I gotta think the belmont thing helps though

- Sabresfan-365

I don’t think you could be more wrong

Not in general, but in this situation...

Tavares has already been losing for 8 years
If you’re showing him a plan where you’re “hopefully” good in 3 years...
well then I’d say he’s a goner

They need to show how they can be good NOW... and still grow into being a contender

They wanna try to convince Tavares to stay

They’re out of a playoff spot, and if they can’t get better defense or goaltending, then adding another scorer would help

How can adding another good player hurt?

- jdfitz77

Trading for evander Kane is not going to get Tavares to sign. We were scoring four or five goals a game just to possibly get a win. We don't need Kane he would be a third liner at this point
Beauvillier has been kicking arse he wouldn't bump anyone off the 1st or 2nd lines. Love to have him on the 3rd but we need goaltending and defense. We have the highest GA in the league trading for Kane makes little to no sense and certainly will not be a deciding factor in whether JT signs or not.

Not sure if you understand just how bad our defense and goaltending is and how great our scoring is? Our first and second lines are at times unstoppable especially our 2nd line. Our defense is a shambles were missing a first and second pairing to injuries and our two top defensive fwds sre gone for most if not the whole season. Kane doesn't help that. I get your train of thought with grab Kane and some defensive help but my point is kane is not worth forfeiting any assets on until we use those assets on some defensive help.

U can’t tell me that winning doesn’t matter
Tavares isn’t gonna be poor if he signs outside of NyI

Stamkos just took less to “win” in Tampa

Hence my no state income tax and 8 year statement.
What he took per year with the xtra term and no state tax he isnt making much less overall.

I’d think bringing in any good player would only back up that they will do anything to win NOW

Like i said before...
might not be a goalie or defense
But it unlikely they can trade for a good starting goalie or difference making defenseman

Idk what would actually “convince” Tavares
NONE OF US DO

But i also don’t see how bringing in a good player can hurt?

If i said the key to Tavares staying was bringing an ice cream machine to the dressing room you may have point.

My points no more or less incorrect than suggesting the isles are so desperate they're going to give up a huge chunk of their trade assets to acquire a player at a position they need the least amount of help in.

The right now is pretty clear, they're going to push for a spot. He's signing an 8 year deal, he wants to know that all 8 years will be good to him, not just the next 3 months.

Well then no one would ever change teams unless they were signing in Florida

Just stop.
You are arguing for trading for a winger to play on a different line.
I am arguing that money talks.
Which one is more plausible?

If we could acquire Kane, a top 4, 3rd line center, and a goaltender I'm all for it but in what world does that happen? A top 6 fwd is at the very bottom of our needs list. It actually doesn't even make the list we simply don't need one. Our 1st and 2nd lines are pretty awesome the rest if the team blows

Did i not day they’d want to sign Kane?
(or whoever they trade for)

Tavares isn’t gonna care about what their 1st round pick can MAYBE help them do 3 years from now

Like u said... “ALL 8 YEARS”
They could trade for someone & sign them for that long...
Right?

And maybe Kane isn’t the position they NEED most
But getting him frees them up to move another forward for defenseman help

At any rate...
doing nothing isn’t gonna magically convince Tavares

Otherwise, he’d be signed by now

NyI needs to make some bold moves to keep him

Bringing in a good player is unrealistic?

I don’t think so

Maybe it wouldn’t be enough to convince him...
but how does it hurt?

They might as well go for it
Bc if they don’t, he’s probably gone

Not saying it has to be Kane...
but someone
Probably more than 1 someone

Or they could just use the assets they have to get some defensive help and not trade for a pending ufa?

You don't think Tavares will care if the isles mismanage their assets by trading them for a winger they don't need?

Tavares is gonna sign for big $$$ no matter where he goes

If he’s gonna stay...
I’m sure he’d want MORE good players on the team

Common sense

So what happens if they make a big trade, giving away assets and the player they traded for doesnt sign with them? That would be favorable to him?
Again, cmon dude.
