Bring back Lindy as HC, move Phil to defence coach. ?
- riptheguard

Wouldn't shock me to see them fire the assistants after the year if Phil survives.

And I don't buy the theory that a coaching carousel hurts future hires. There are only 31 NHL coaching jobs. People will still be lining up for them.

Phil is not taking a demotion, he's either coach or you fire him.
- sskkoo1

Yeah I feel that. Anyone know how many coaches they R still paying? Bylsma, Ryan. Nolan?

True, but the top candidates do have options.

Disco Dan is still under contract, that's a hilarious option.

Does anyone really want interim HC Davis Payne?

Last time I checked, Housley was one of the top candidates and one of the hottest rising coaches out there. As was Tocchet, whom I did not want here.

If you're talking guys like Babcock, coach Q, etc, then, yeah, ok. However, until this organization turns around and starts winning consistently, I don't care how many coaches you have to go through, because the top guys won't want to come here to coach a consistent loser anyway.

They seemed to have found the right guy for the Bills finally, so there's always hope for the Sabres, right? *crickets lol

would make sense if his toi is plummeting. His play away from the puck is really lacking. It doesnt have to be good, just not this bad

I know you get my point. If this 'hottest rising coach' gets canned after half a season, then the next 'hottest rising coach' might consider waiting for something better. It's a legit concern.

Why? Because he got help from a couple of bone-headed penalties and his RB took the ball into the endzone??

I have never been a fan of the Housley hire, mostly because the first time he talked, he lacked that forceful tone that I appreciated from Lindy Ruff.

Making parallels is tough, but Ruff made Vanek his whipping boy, which I thought was garbage at the time. However, maybe if Housley made Reinhart his whipping boy, it would have set the tone for the rest of the team. Scratch him at the beginning of the season. Call him out. Reinhart is the poster boy for "just happy to be in the show"

I wish Housley had more fire a la, "Don't go after our (frank)ing captain!"

I think eventually we will need that guy again. Screw the optics, make the change now and send 23, 9, 22, 28 and others packing. Find a fire and brimstone coach, and get these guys playing.

I thought - and I still do - that Nolan was in over his head, but everyone knows this team has more talent than his teams. This is unacceptable.

This was probably rambling and incoherent

This whole league is about optics, that's what TM didn't understand. From his pee pee comments to three word draft picks to crying over mcdavid and everything in between. was it hella entertaining? absolutely but this league has a massive stick up it's ass and so things like optics and reputation account for basically everything that happens.

All firing the coach does is make the players feel even more safe. Even if you are bringing in a "fire and brimstone" guy, the players win. Because it's their fault they're in this mess and yet again someone else paid the price for it.

Housley isn't the dead weight here. he may be a bad coach but until you give him a competent team (or even blueline) to work with all firing him does is keep players from being held accountable in the way that actually matters.

You really want to send a message to these players. Trade ROR for draft picks and kids and let the "vets" and entitled high picks know that their age, experience and reputation is absolutely meaningless if they don't produce

It is, you're right. I don't see it happening. Botts is just as much to blame as Phyllis, as is GMTM.

A) This team has got to get better in goal (hopefully, Ullmark). Lehner has his faults - his positioning is horrible - but he's been left out to dry quite a bit, too.

B) The skaters up front are too slow to compete in today's NHL. Botts will need to fix that.

C) The D are too irresponsible, and don't have a true #1, to play Housley's style.

Botts was never going to fix this team in one summer, no matter what he tried. He's not to blame and he's not to praise. He literally hasn't had enough time to be either one.

He brought in what, 8 new players? He has a hand in this.

the quantity is misleading. he spent next to nothing in terms of assets to bring in these guys, so expectations were obviously on the lower end.

I have a hard time believing a guy as well respected as Botterill brought these guys in expecting them to be good. I think it would have been a pleasant surprise but ultimately he was looking towards draft day (be it a high pick or trades, thats just where the best action for him is for this team)

A.) Is the least of this teams issues (at the moment)
B and C are two major deficiencies this team has. Get more speed up front and they need a true #1 with maybe a #2 and let Risto be a #3

The Bills pass defense was lights out against Jacksonville. The Bills main issue was they didn't apply any pressure to force him to throw into coverage to create their much needed turnovers.

He's gotta get some speed in the top 6. Baptiste should have played with Eichel yesterday. Nylander is struggling in the AHL. Bring him up, play him with Eichel. Give the fans something

I get it with the culture argument for rochester. Terrific, wonderful, but 5 games. Nylander-Eichel-Baptiste
