The Bills drafted Willis McGahee after a catastrophic knee injury knowing he'd miss a year and I'm sure people were saying he'd never be the same or he wouldn't last long and he had himself a very good career at the most punishing position outside of the lines.

I'm just saying Jack is talented enough to have been a top 3 pick and he went with the 5th pick in the 2nd round.

Getting to know crappy players doesn’t help. They’re not band aid fixes, they’re stop gaps. He needs time and high picks to amass the talent needed to compete. Housley had 0 shot at competing with this team. It seems like that was plan anyways. If the low risk moves worked out, great. If not, get a high pick.

They are not allowed to do that. It's in the CBA. Players have to have 1 off day a week, practices can only be a certain length...

It's not like it used to be where you can make them skate after the game.

You might only get 2 practices a week. You can't spend them just making them skate you have to at least try and fix some of the problems.

If everyone knew how good he was going to be that makes it really hard to move up to get him because his value is really high and no one is going to give that up for less than full value. If everyone thought he was going to be bad or average that's what makes it a lot easier to move up and get him.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say, besides proving Wetbandit1 point.

You're arguing about a players that the sabres were not in a position to draft. It's easy to say just trade up, but you have to offer something the other team wants. Usually more picks, such as your first plus 2nd or 3rd. The problem is that Arizona already had a bunch of prospects, and where more likely looking for quality over quantity. They were not going to give up the player they wanted unless you were willing to overpay royally. So what would have offered?

2 years of trying and not really getting anywhere and then 2 years of tanking and 3 years of trying to dig out of that. Tanking may or may not work, but one thing that's indisputable is that it really sets you back especially if you do it the way the Sabres did, sell everything that isn't nailed down, then pull that poop up and sell it too. The Leafs at least held onto guys like Kadri and JVR.

In retrospect, maybe Nolan was the worst choice of Tank coach, he actually motivated his guys to go out and play, so they had to keep getting rid of guys.
