I'd say you have a point if every team in the NHL didn't do this bullpoop. The Red Wings(when they were good) used to keep players in the AHL for years after they were ready while dressing Drew Miller on a nightly basis. - Wetbandit1
I like to use the Justin Bailey example here
When called up this season,
he played 3 or 4 games with O’Reilly & scores 2 goals
Then was knocked down to the 4th line,
and scored none until sent back to Roch
If we wanna see if these guys can play in our top9...
then we have to put them in a position to be successful
Not on the 4th line with Josefson, Nolan, etc |

I think the other two have a higher ceiling and tkachuk has the higher floor if that makes sense - Sabresfan-365
It makes perfect sense. You kind of know what you're getting with Tkachuk, but Svechnikov and Zadina could be Bure(not really, but you get the point) or Yakupov.
But is Svechnikov really that good? His stats this year, while good, aren't 2nd overall good.
Reinhart's draft year junior numbers are a lot better. Now the season isn't over yet, so I'll wait and see, but it seems kind of underwhelming. Especially in the OHL where they hand out points like rubbers at an orgy. |

Yeah, but again, this is standard practice around the NHL. The Sabres are hardly unique in that. |

He broke his hand in the beginning of the year. Missed like 2 month i think.

Idk about that
To your Red Wings point...
u never saw Larkin or Nyqvist on line4
Although i do remember Abdelkader having to work his way up
Maybe Bailey can follow that path, but would u wanna do that with Nylander or Mittelstadt?
And what about when the Pens were playing guys like Sheary & Kuhnackle in the top9 so they could spread scoring over 3 lines?
I’m not saying just gift these guys a spot
Obviously they need to earn it
But if you’re gonna bring up Baptiste, E Rod, Bailey, etc...
let’s see them play in the top9 with some talent
That’s gonna tell us more about what player they can become than sticking them on line4 in a “grinder” role for 8min
It just doesn’t seem like we will gain much outta that
Otherwise...
just let them play in Roch & bring back scrubs like Griffith & Criscuolo to fill in the blanks |

It's not like just one Sabres coach has done it either, every one since Lindy has done it.
Every team does it.

Look at Svechnikov’s ppg
He was hurt early in the year
His numbers are actually very good considering
It’s a coin flip at #2 for me between him & Zadina
I think both will likely be very good |

Not exclusively like you’re making it sound
There’s lots of examples of young talent playing in the top9, and even top6, & not having to play 8min a night on line 4
And it’s different when your team is in contention vs being totally out of it |

Kucherov, late second rd pick played less then 10 minutes 4 times in his rookie year
IMO this is how any player with top 6 upside should be treated

19 goals in 23 OHL games for Svechnikov.31 goals in 13 games in Russia U16 league that saw the likes of Ovi and Malkin go through there. I’m a huge fan of Zadina also. I take both before TK |

I don't like making excuses for Bailey. He skates like a crazed lunatic for his first 2 games after every call up and everyone gets excited. After that, he slowly disappears. I still have no idea if he has a future in the NHL, and the same goes for all of the Amerks forwards. Nylander's first round status will get him a longer look, but I imagine they are going to let his ELC slide again.

I did. 1.5 something Reinhart was 1.75.
Edit: 1.33 for Svechnikov this year. Didn't know about the injury. But Reinhart also missed time in his draft year. |

I'm not saying he's bad, but this just feels like 2014 to me. A defenseman and a handful of forwards who may or may not be good. |

yeah its starting to feel that way to me too.
Svechnikov has that bennett feel. All the right tools, but will he ever put it together? Hes got decent scoring #s 5v5, Zadina's are better. |

Idk that I’m making excuses
When he played with O’Reilly, he scored
When he got bumped to the 4th line,
he didn’t
I get your point by about his style of play
But what I’m saying is that these guys are extremely unlikely to produce on the 4th line
And if we wanna see if they can play in the top9, then we need to leave them there for an extended period
I see no point to bringing a prospect up to play 8min on the 4th line
