i would want that too, but one is more realistic. You hold out too long for the unicorn, you may wind up settling for a donkey with a plunger stuck to its forehead

Let’s assume we can get a “B” prospect & a 1st

If we ask for an “A” prospect,
teams aren’t suddenly gonna take the “B” prospect off the table & change their best offer to a “C” prospect

Maybe I’m not getting what you’re saying,
but that’s what it sounds like

how are they connected?

The draft has come a long way since picks like EJ. Dahlin by all accounts is a stud

- Sabresfan-365

What do you mean how are they connected?

Edmonton gets Connor McDavid the best player in the game today and they aren't winning

You need a complete team.

You need good prospects in your cupboard to fill holes on your rosters

Also OEL is already a stud not a prospect

Both have a losing culture created by tanking. Hard to shake that

im saying if you ask for an A prospect you're most likely not going to get it. And then at 2:30 on deadline day you're just scrambling to get whatever you can since kane has one foot out the door. maybe its picks, lesser prospects or whatever. Because the buyers arent going to sit around and wait, they've got heat on them two. most will have just gone to their plan B.

Only way to shake that is get good young players in the organization with players that want to win (like Eichel)

True...
but does OEL fit our timeline?
Plus, we’d have to pay him A LOT, so we gotta consider the Cap too

And would Arizona even make this trade?
I think we’d have to add to it

Their losses are connected to having a potato for a GM, not their drafting. In the context of this OEL thing, it makes more sense to get the cost effective d-man with the high ceiling rather than trade for a guy you'll probably have to pay 11 mil.

So don’t wait till 2:30

That’s why we are asking for such a big return NOW

There’s plenty of time for this to play out
You’re overly worried about Botts holding out forever

Direct quote from Dreger on the asking price for Kane going up...
“You can’t get, if u don’t ask”

Who would’ve ever thought that Larson would get Hall?
If that was u as GM, you’d never have asked for Hall

Or Forsberg for Erat... same thing

There’s no harm in asking big
None
Only upside

This is very true. Like the article we are chatting about said, we need to change the entire team attitude and create a winning culture. That's not gonna happen with any #1 pick on the planet. Gonna take a lot more than that to change this team around.
I personally hope we can f**king clean house at the deadline, draft, and off season

The harm isn't asking big, it's setting expectations way too high. Thats how we've got all these people female doging about botterill already and hes not even a year into his job.

Im all for asking for big value, they key is value. Get as much as you can of any sort, hes getting jack poop if he returns calls saying "I want your best defensive prospect for my way overrated winger who tries hard in contract years".

I KNOW PLUSES AND MINUSES MEAN poop BUT

-36 he's going to be 27 next year
Also a free agent next year so there's basically a chance that you just gave away our franchise defenseman for just a rental

But let's say he signs so he'll be 29 when he starts his new contract

Does that sound good ?

I know free agency has alot of negativity around it but we need to pick up the right players there too. We have been burned but we cant shy away from it.

You’ve said this before

It makes no sense

As a fan...
will u be mad if Botts asks for a “A” prospect & only gets a “B” instead?

I’ll be more load if he never asks for the “A” to begin with

And Botts job is not to worry about fan expectations
It’s to build a winner

Is it likely?
No, probably not... i agree

But u can’t get a Hall or a Forsberg unless u ask

And no...
ppl will not just offer a “C” prospect instead of a “B” just bc we ask for a top guy
If they want Kane,
they will still pay a reasonable price

It's worth pointing out that in both those deals, chiarelli and mcphee when to New Jersey and Nashville with the offers.

mad would be if he asked for an a prospect, got a c and a pick and tried to pass it off like it's some great steal.

Kind of like Winnipeg did with Marko Dano.

I could see Hornqvist being a target in free agency.

I guess i just don’t understand why u think the “b” prospect offer would go away?

Is he a UFA this year?
And how old is he?

Besides Tavares,
JvR would be the top forward i go after
Still young, good scorer, and might wanna sign here just to stick it to the Leafs
Hopefully anyways

because between now and the last mins of deadline day nobody is offering you the A prospect.

In that time, those in the running for kane will turn their attention somewhere else because they have to.

Now it's 245, youve got just one dance partner left and his cupboards are empty.

But it’s more fun than discussing how bad we still suck!
