The rebuilding part I am patient with, it's the product on the ice now that is causing the pain. - Reubenkincade
They're almost in a position where young fast kids can play, almost, and they can let the older guys walk. That said, they don't need four slow 33 plus year old guys in the line-up. |

The drop off in play between one guy and whoever they call up to replace him isn’t that steep. |

You are bang on. Dowd has been one of the hardest workers, even gaunce has been out hustling the rest of the team. Our "3rd line center" in chaput just cleared waivers while we are up against teams that have adam henrique as their 3C. We just arent even close right now. - Codes1087
I think this season's TDL and upcoming draft will give us all an idea of how long it's going to take us to being truly competitive. A really good TDL and draft might help but still so many holes to fill.
If they want to speed this process up they are going to start signing free agents and that has had tragic results in the past.
For me there is only two possible outcomes:
1. A long tedious rebuild.
2. Hindenburg. |

They need to get Gaudette signed and let him play, if he proves he's an NHL talent then give him a spot. They need to get Dahlen, Pettersson, Lind, Gadjovich and Juolevi in the NHL or AHL, they're close to a big youth push but not just there yet. |

We've seen glimpses of it this year. With a healthy club and the Sedins logging sheltered 3-4 line minutes we can compete and beat the best. Crosby-Ovenchicken-McJesus-Matthews...all beaten. Just have to find the right mix it may take 2 more years it may take 6. Tough to say at this point but not bringing the Sedins back is the first step of many. |

I think it’s more of a Tug-of-war, except both sides are trying to push the rope instead of pull it. - 1970vintage
That's a funny image right there.
I know it's all gossip about owner interference but from where I'm standing that tug-o-war analogy of yours is hard to refute. |

So you are saying that in 4 seasons, JB's only been able to acquire two players with NHL roster value? The rest being expendable or still question marks?
That makes me sad. - bloatedmosquito
This kind of thinking is why we are in this situation, and why MG was not a good GM. Teams like Pitts and Chi have shown that only a FEW players on a team are untouchable. The rest can be traded. Every player that is not the primary core should be in play at all times. If good players were not on the table then players like Saad, Panarin, and many players like them would never have been traded by their teams. So currently outside of Bo, BB, Tanev, and JV all other players should be available to trade for futures, or be packaged to upgrade in the right deal.
Tanev is debatable, but is good to keep around for OJ. JV is also debatable but he is an FA pick and that idiot hates to be wrong. |

As far as current roster players go, keep the ones who are your future and get whatever you can for the rest. This team is udder poop. One of our top 3 or 4 players is a 2 million dollar, older, UFA pickup... this roster is what you get why you cant accept reality.
Also. You have to ask yourself, take the top 3 teams from the east, and top 3 from the west, and look at their line ups and start plugging in our players to see if they not only fit, but would crack their rosters, you soon realize why we are where we are in the standings - Codes1087
Vegas? Yes most of our top 9 and top 4 would crack their roster |

That too, but I mean the drop off between say Gagner and Goldobin/Boucher isn’t significant, at least not now that the playoffs aren’t really on the table |

True, and those wins surprised me but I'm not using those wins as an indication on how they would fare against those teams in a playoff series.
I've fully embraced the two season theory. That's why I've been a Tanker for a couple of seasons now. To build a playoff competitive team take a different strategy than it does to build a successful regular season team.
I have no doubt that JB and crew can stumble on a team that will make the playoffs. But to hit paydirt, who knows... |

We have a few guys that would play on any teams top 9 forwards, but they are either core building blocks or foundational players |

My grievance is with the quantity and quality of the core. In 4 seasons as GM, JB has added two to Gillis' legacy of two.
Oh God, that's so (frank)ing bad! |

True, I don't get why they won't let Virtanen and Goldobin play, they're no worse than Gagner defensively. It's like Green is trying to save face for Benning?
If they had McCann and Ehlers or Larkin in the line-up with the kid from the second round pick they gave away for Gudbranson two years ago they'd be in a lot better shape and more entertaining with the kids I listed above almost ready.....but I digress. |
