He is definitely worth more than we paid for him. He produces at a 2nd line rate, good forcheck and good backcheck. Is defensively responsibly. I don't see why he couldnt get a late 1st, or even a 2nd and a good prospect at this point.

Ehlers looked pretty dangerous last night. Too bad the Canucks don't have big guys like his current line mates, Little and Perrault to allow him to play well.
Good thing it's 2018, not 1998. - Nucker101
He has some small guys on defense as well. Buff, Trouba and Myers are pretty small guys.
Edit: Winnipeg has a pretty nice mix of speed skill and size.
So your thinking that the value of a prospect on the cusp of being a bust, getting bought low, then plays meaningful games at the NHL level and improves to the point of being on pace for 2nd line production 2 years in a row, is not worth more than a late 2nd?He is on pace for a 50 pt season. That is 2nd line production.

Maybe a high second... or a 2nd with a 1st rounder condition on production, cup or re-signing perhaps but firsts are worth a hell of a lot more in recent years.

We can only speculate. But I think you'd get a 2nd + random prospect at best.

He is an RFA. Teams don't worry about re-sign in the offseason when trading. I think he could net us a 1st on draft day if we traded. Esp if we sign him first. we may need to add a 4th or something small. But the value is there for a 25 y/o RFA 2nd line LW player.

GM's would much rather pay a 2nd + other decent asset than a 1st nowadays.
How many 1st round picks have been traded for 2nd line wingers over the last 3 years?
Pretty hard to hit what you can't catch. The kid is one (frank) of a player.
Our team is slower than the 50 year old timers league in my town. - Reubenkincade
Yeah, plus what makes him great is that he can actually control the puck well and make plays for himself or others while he's flying up the ice.

Not many can or have been able to do that at that speed.
Winnipèg has been waiting for a goalie to step up and now look like a serious contender.
That is a pretty deep hockey team.
