The most ideal situation is Flyers hold Simmonds for a playoff run this year. He kills it during this playoff run and we get a king’s ransom for him at the draft. That is if we trade him.

I couldn't find anyone that fit the bill besides Brian Boyle, and I want nothing to do with him (good on him returning from cancer, though).
- jmatchett383

Pat Maroon could fill that role.

I had a hard on for Artyukhin years ago but that sadly never happened.

If they do resign Simmonds, you're talking about Provorov making maybe $6-$7M more, Simmonds probably a $2.5M raise, and Konecny maybe a $3M raise. I know that all other roster spots will be filled by guys on ELCs and that none of the players you mentioned will get raises on their new deals, but I'd rather have the cap space. Just make Lehtera the 13th forward or waive him next year and be done with it.

his wife isnt around enough to make his appearance here worth it. Saves them money to get rid of him and clears a roster spot. If they do keep him around to sit that is fine too. Someone is going to have to play when the Flyers scratch the next batch of prospects

My ideal situation is that we keep him for 5 more years and win 5 Cups during that time.

So ship out half our current NHL forwards and throw a bunch of AHL kids in their place? That's the path to winning?
- jmatchett383

Over the next few years... yea. take out like 2 a year. Hopefully Weiss and Filppula this year, Raffl and Lethera next, so on until we have filtered as many faces as we can through.

NICOLAS DESLAURIERS wouldn't be a bad add either.

I understand Maroon isn't a speedster but he has good skill and plays with an edge.

He has also shown to be able to play up and down the lineup. I like that versatility over just pure speed.

I dont mind Maroon, but I do tend to agree that the Flyers need more speed in the lineup. Its the overall direction the club seems to be taking and I dont want to go back on that.

League is all about skating now.

I am not even sure how to communicate with someone who actually thinks that is a logical argument.

You are actually saying Manning/Sanheim is the difference in winning or losing? You actually think Goulbourne playing 5 minutes a night has lead to 7 wins?

The Flyers went on a 10 game win streak last year without Coots in the lineup....clearly a better team without him

let's argue about it

We don't need Maroon to come in as our next 4th liner, I am sure Hakstol has already penciled in Cole Bardreau for that role.

You'll never find the perfect player.

What i am looking for is a guy that can fill a need for a playoff run. I think Maroon could do that for this team.

I know the Flyers won't be in on the big names...but i think Maroon can fit for the need now and not cost you any of your future.

Some more little bits regarding Sanheim's demotion.

Hakstol said it’s a matter of Sanheim “gaining a little more maturity, and he’s going to be an outstanding player in this league.”

In some of the last games he played with the Flyers, “he probably lost a little bit of the confidence, and that can happen to a young defenseman in this league,” Hakstol said. “I think for him to go and play some games in the American League and get himself back to the top of his game is really important for him.”

Mark Alt, 26, was recalled as the extra defenseman. The righthanded-shooting Alt was solid in eight games with the Flyers earlier this season: “He was able to jump in the lineup and play with confidence,” Hakstol said.

The Hextall one's are just weird at times :

Some of what Travis Sanheim is going through is good for Travis,” Hextall said last week. “Again, I don’t want a young player sitting as long as he’s sat or missing many more games, but there’s a lot you learn up there (in the press box). Part of it is a life lesson of you’ve got to earn things. You’re not going to be handed things just because you’re a first-round pick or a highly paid guy or whatever. You have to earn things. That’s a huge lesson in life. I said it before but we don’t come out of college and become a CEO. You’ve got to pay your dues and earn what you’re gonna get.”

If you look at the whole year on Travis I think he’s played well for us,” general manager Ron Hextall said. “He’s had his moments, but he’s a young player and that’s gonna happen. Obviously I don’t like him sitting and the coaches don’t like him sitting and I’m sure he doesn’t like sitting either. Something will break here at some point.”

-- Whats with Hex and the kids having to earn and fight for every single damn thing. Not sure how to feel about that. Seems a bit overdone.

they won 10 straight and missed the playoffs last year.

they've already lost 10 straight this year.

the laws of physics demand they make the playoffs.
