Fitz , some people do not want to hear it. They are sick of losing and shortsighted.
The draft is not an exact science, but picking early is a great benefit.
The reinhart pick and nylander pick were both bad picks. That's on gmtm: not where the sabres picked in the draft.
Given the opportunity gmtm would have picked matthews or laine.
The sabres would have a better future with either if them over nylander - Boss34
How can you say that people are shortsighted? We've been a lottery team for, what, 8 years? |

the argument would be that short sightedness (and by extension short term/accelerated trades) put us there, not patience.
Oilers are having a similar problem while Matt Barzal ultimately convinces JT to stay on long island.
Extreme exaggeration, but it gets the point across. |

Sabres could have done a lot worse . I always consider the drafted players 3-4 yrs away from being anything .

Sam really has played well recently, so I'm not going to bash him.
Nylander? He could be good, but nothing is pointing in that direction.
Bad in the ahl, not scoring at all or even getting shots on net.
Not standing out at 19 in the juniors against 17 and 18 year olds.
Casey has my hopes up.

You want to win now. Short term , be happy tonight they won , yeah!
Lose and pick a potential superstar.
Someone who can be great nwxt year and for a long time.
Again, the draft is not an exact science.
I believe we finally have a gm who has a clue with drafting. Casey looks solid

Nylander seems to be the chosen one to be a barista. And he was rumored to be the best one of the kids. |

Like most on here, i am sick of the losing and tanking talk. However, I need to suck it up for the remainder of this season and hope they finish 30/31. Losing lots of entertaining games 4-3 and 5-4 would be perfect to me. The end goal of improving our chances to get one of Dahlin, the Czech, the Russian or Tkachuk is just too great a prize.
In 2 years if one of those 4 is lighting it up with Jack and co and leading us to the playoffs, this season will be remembered as the year we tanked with dignity. If we somehow made a run now and finished 26, what will it have accomplished? Probably not much.
I'll be at the Canucks/Sabres game tomorrow night in my Sabres jersey. Cheering them on to a 6-5 loss! Hides. |

Very well put. We are all sick of losing , but Jack needs another running mate.
This team will be good eventually , hopefully next season.
The world juniors being in buffalo really introduced us to some high end talent.

In all the years of buffalo sports, do you remember the bills or sabres tanking. (Prior to the last 5 years)
Bills clearly lost to the jets in 2016 last game on purpose.
I can't remember tanking for Bruce or Pierre.

I'm the wrong sports fan to ask on that one . I'm sure someone knows on here . Wasn't much a football guy. still not .
The Sabres just sucked to get Turgeon I remember that. |

Again, though, we've been a lottery team for going on a decade. Yeah, I want to win now. Who doesn't? It's getting old. I used to never, and I mean NEVER, miss a game. I bet there were 10 games I didn't even bother to watch this year.
Bottom line, no matter where you pick, you have to draft well. Casey looks awesome. Nylander looks like sh!t. Both were 8's. Guhle (a second rounder) looks like a potential stud. Ullmark could be a steal.
Don't get me wrong. If we end up with Dahlin, Zadina, etc, I'll be thrilled, but we've got to stop relying on the hope of finishing bottom 2, and start hitting on a few 2nd and 3rd rounders, i.e. Kucherov.

There was no losing on purpose . Team was just bad that year .
I think the Oilers coined that phrase or were given that tag |

Fair enough:
drafting and missing on players is the reason we can't stay competitive.
Guhle, mitts and ullmark look like good picks.
The Bruins always draft well. They look set for the future.
Looks like the bills have the right guys in place , hope the sabres do as well.

im not a football guy. With it being the worst sport in the history of sports...including professional jarts.
But I do remember when the Balckhawks were so bad, they would have 5000-7000 people in their seats on a weekday night. And I also remember the time between Lemiux/Jagr and Crosby/Malkin when the Pens were not only a guaranteed win, but a good "punching bag" win in the NHL.
Both those teams tanked. But they didn't call it tanking back then. They just called it "being bad."
I actually remember reading an article where "experts" were speculating that Chicago might move because they were so bad. Nobody remembers that after multiple cups.

I hope Jbotts/Housely give Jack the "C" at the season end press conference. No need to keep anyone in suspence - this is Jack's team. Imagine how much more motivated he will be this summer in the gym/at the rink knowing he has the responsibility of being Captain Jack! He'll likely get 90 pts this year - i could see him pushing for 100 next year. |

He will be captain. Just a matter of when.
Middlestadt will be the Barzal of next season
Guhle will be like Jacob Slavin
We will be good |
