But but but gaudreau went 104th overall. We should just stockpile 4th round picks.

nah, you're just supposed to believe in the scouting staff to conveniently find all star talent in areas where you have roughly a 5% chance of finding someone for your fourth line |

I conveniently left Johnny hockey out.
90% of the top 2 lines are top 9 picks.
Thats why I want another early pick |

I knew it was something like that. Makes perfect sense.
Maybe some gm will just give us 20 4th-7th rd picks for kane. |

Sure it helps but we don't need to be the drafting in the top 5... there are guys that are really good that get drafted after the top 5.... (I like how to conveniently left off the third and fourth line players from above. and when is the last time we got someone in the 3-7 round that was worth a crap.... Hell we have blown two of the top 10 picks.
I'm not apologizing for wanting my team to not suck anymore... and drafting in the 1-16 spots is not where I want to be drafting anymore. F that, just win. |

I was completely agreeing with you there. Figured someone would actually point him out and make an argument for scouting and drafting well though.
We are on the same page here. |

Interestingly enough I think the Islanders actually tried to game this very strategy with the Jackets in the 2012 draft.
IIRC didn't they try to trade all of their picks to move up 2 spots to take Ryan Murray?
Jackets declined but then immediately fired like 80% of the crew they had at the draft.
Not that Murray is great or anything but he would end up being the best player in that deal |

So we are 50% when drafting in the top ten in the last 4 years and almost zero % in later rounds seemingly ever as you mentioned.
Draft position doesnt matter. |

Why in the hell would the Canes trade a stud D man like Hanifin ? We have no reason to move ROR, E4 means wrong again. |

except you realize no matter how many games they win they will be drafting in that spot this year?
I don't want them trying for a top pick, but that is where the chips fell this year and it's likely the best long term outcome since the short term goals are dead. |
