Ok, so here's the rinkside report from the game. Overall, the Sabres played a very good road game. Very sound defensively which is something you don't hear very often. Must be one of the easiest shutouts that Lehner has ever gotten. Very few tough saves and little sustained Canucks pressure.
Guys that looked good - Reinhart was named the #1 star and he deserved it. I didn't know Reinhart could throw a check. He did it a few times tonight. All over the ice. Risto was #2 star and he also played a very good game. Other guys that stood out - Baptiste with his speed (and nice goal), Antipin played well, so did Nelson. Okposo looked pretty good. So did ROR. Kane was invisible which is surprising considering he is from Vancouver.
The way they are playing right now makes me nervous that they are going to catch Ottawa. Maybe even the Canucks if they keep it up.
The Kids are Alex and Guhle. Look back at pre-season. Griffith outplayed Bailey and Baptiste. Those 2 are 22 with 2 full AHL seasons. Surely you can see the difference. They haven't been overly impressive in Rochester either. I don't get the optimism on them and the pessimism on Alex. They were both in Juniors at the same point in their careers. - Lunaion
Baptiste led Rochester with 25goals in 59games last year
That’s 32goals over a full season
Bailey had 23goals in 52games last year for Rochester
That’s 34goals over a full season
Those are “impressive” numbers to me
Not saying they’re studs...
but worthy of a legit look up here
Besides scoring,
they both have the speed that Botts wants too

He’s a skilled player that doesn’t score? - sbroads24
Just reminding people that he wouldn't even be eligible to play in the AHL if not for his unusual loan to the OHL. Didn't like the pick, didn't like playing him in Rochester last year, but I'm still holding on to some hope for him.

good news, I guess
antipin and nelson have passed the tv test IMO this week as well
U made it sound like they haven’t done anything at all in their “2 seasons in Roch”
Bailey has been hurt this year
Baptiste has struggled a bit
But they both still have talent
U ask why give them a shot...
They’ve shown they’re scorers in juniors
They’ve shown they can score in Rochester
Why not see if they can score here?
The season is toast
What’s their to lose? - jdfitz77
I'm sure they'll both (+ Fasching) get chances here down the stretch, but we all know they won't be handed an extended look on the top 6. They simply don't function that way. I thought one of them would have stuck in the NHL by this point, and I'm disappointed that they haven't.
I know there was RoR chatter before the statement came out that anyone but jack could be had
honestly I see mittelstadt playing on jack's wing from day 1
I doubt ror gets traded anytime soon, perhaps when either asplund or davidsson become established nhl players - homiedclown
Well that’s gonna be a few years at least
I’d imagine Asplund is in Rochester next year unless he just blows everyone away in camp/preseason
Then at least 1 season in the bottom6
They maybe he plays well enough the following season to make ROR expendable?
Davidsson is probably at least 1 more season before even coming to Rochester
Idk his contract status,
but I’m assuming he’s got some development to do

Well Bailey did get a look last year with O’Reilly for a bit
But besides that, neither have been given much of a chance here
U said they’re 22...
Pominville didn’t make it up here full time till he was 24
Not everyone develops super fast
Wayne Simmonds came into the league straight from Juniors, but he didn’t become a “scorer” until year 4 when Philly put him on a line with Giroux
I think the situation u play in has an effect on how u develop as well
Abdelkader for Detroit got his first extended action in the NHL at age 23 (50 games)
Then worked his way up from the 4th line for the next 5 years
Was 28 when he finally topped 20 goals (23) in 14-15 season
Not to single you out...
but it’s extreme impatience to think of a guy hasn’t stuck in the NHL & been productive by age 22 that they won’t ever be decent players
Thing is...
we won’t find out if they don’t get a chance
Since this season is toast...
it gives us an opportunity to get a decent look before they finish the season in Rochester for the playoffs
I just don’t see the downside
If they suck... big deal...
helps us get a top3 pick
