good news, I guess

antipin and nelson have passed the tv test IMO this week as well

- homiedclown

Antipin should be played most nights for the rest of the season
Another case where we need to see what we’ve got
Can’t get better sitting in the Press box

Agreed about Antipin. He looked good tonight in person. I would like to see what he's got over the last 30+ games.

It’s weird how they’ve had him in the press box so much

Gorges will likely be traded
So that gets Antipin him in the lineup most nights

I haven’t really liked Beaulieu that much,
but might as well play him too

Scandella-Ristolainen
McCabe-Bogosian
Beaulieu-Antipin
...or something like that

Send Falk & Nelson to Rochester to help with their playoff run

They’ll actually have a pretty good defense down there

Falk-Fedun
Guhle-Nelson
Percy-Redmond/Tennyson

I’d assume that’s their top7 for the playoffs

Nathan Paetsch is actually on Rochester

Only played 7 games though

Idk if he’s been hurt, or just scratched bc u can only play so many “vets”

Well Bailey did get a look last year with O’Reilly for a bit
But besides that, neither have been given much of a chance here
U said they’re 22...

Pominville didn’t make it up here full time till he was 24

Not everyone develops super fast

Wayne Simmonds came into the league straight from Juniors, but he didn’t become a “scorer” until year 4 when Philly put him on a line with Giroux

I think the situation u play in has an effect on how u develop as well

Abdelkader for Detroit got his first extended action in the NHL at age 23 (50 games)
Then worked his way up from the 4th line for the next 5 years
Was 28 when he finally topped 20 goals (23) in 14-15 season

Not to single you out...
but it’s extreme impatience to think of a guy hasn’t stuck in the NHL & been productive by age 22 that they won’t ever be decent players

Thing is...
we won’t find out if they don’t get a chance

Since this season is toast...
it gives us an opportunity to get a decent look before they finish the season in Rochester for the playoffs

I just don’t see the downside
If they suck... big deal...
helps us get a top3 pick

Keep in mind that people said the same thing about them last year, when their performance was more deserving of the shot. Maybe they are late-bloomers, I hope they are. They've already lost their prospect luster with me, and are about to be leap-frogged, but that doesn't mean I've lost all hope. This year, CJ Smith has earned a shot. It seems that JB is so serious about winning in Roch that he's going to be stingy on some of the call ups.

The more I hear about Mayfield the more I think it's possible he could be THE guy in this class.

Maybe they’ve “lost their luster” as u put it...
but there’s no reason to not give them a chance up here
You’re talking like we should just not re-sign them bc they’re garbage

Based on this year...
yeah, Smith “deserves” the call up

Regardless... this season is toast

Once we make some trades at the deadline,
these guys should all get some looks up here

Playing Wilson (for example) in the top6 does nothing for this team going forward

There’s talk that either Denver at 5 or the Jets at 6 take him though

So to be SURE we’d get him,
we’d have to trade up to #4 with Cleve

That’s gonna cost a ton

Even if he drops...
11- Miami
12- Cinci
13- Wash
15- Arizona
16- Ravens

So Mayfield definitely isn’t making it to us
Do we trade up to 10 with the Raiders?
Probably cost us both our 1sts

I think there's probably going to be one move up to 2 or 3. I don't know who it's going to be, but that just seems to be how it works now. Maybe the Cards, but I think they're a little too far on the outside to give up that much.

I just don't quite see the Giants or Colts* going QB yet especially if they get a good offer to trade back a handful of spots and still get their guy.

*Depends how bad Luck's shoulder really is.

I see Blues fans on Cap Friendly trying to get rid of Berglund

Are there rumors of this?
I’d guess it would have to be Cap related bc he scored 23 last year & is on pace for 18 this year

I don’t watch StL a ton,
but there’s our 3C that can take def zone faceoffs & free up ROR to get less icetime & focus more on offense
3.8mil per, for 4 more years
He will be 30 at the end of this season though
So maybe he doesn’t fit our timeline
And he has an NMC,
so doubtful he comes here anyways

Just a thought

Though if teams think the Bills regress they might be ok with 21 and next years first. Just depends how desperate they are for talent now vs maybe a better pick next year. And that depends on the guys coming out next year at their positions of need. And free agency.

I think Luck is fine and their guy
Otherwise,
I doubt McDaniels takes that job

Idk how the Giants pass up a QB unless they just don’t like these guys?
I did hear John Clayton on WGR today say that he thinks Eli is coming back
But it’s tough to imagine how they’d get a better shot at his replacement

Regardless of how exactly it plays out...
i think 4 QBs are gone after ARZ picks

For me...
i still want Keenum
He looked like the real deal to me this year
Idk why Minny seems to not want him
(Is that a red flag?)

If we get him,
we can use our picks to fill holes

That’s the best case scenario imo

I think you need to prepare to be disappointed. We may well see another Wilson-type play out the string in Buffalo, while they continue to keep winning in Rochester. It's also a near certainty that he saves a few roster moves for college FA's.

Well it would make sense to see some guys up here anyways

Obviously send them back for the playoffs

But even for next year...
no more Pouliot, Wilson, Griffith, etc
We have enough youth who should prove to at least be “ok” for the 4th line,
even if they aren’t effective in the top9

It’s tempting to look at the number of games lost by only one goal (or one goal and and EN) and to look at this Western swing and ask if the team is actually closer than we have thought.

Tempting. I’m not saying we definitely are, but I’m wondering if we possibly COULD BE.

Well that’s gonna be a few years at least
I’d imagine Asplund is in Rochester next year unless he just blows everyone away in camp/preseason
Then at least 1 season in the bottom6
They maybe he plays well enough the following season to make ROR expendable?

Davidsson is probably at least 1 more season before even coming to Rochester
Idk his contract status,
but I’m assuming he’s got some development to do

- jdfitz77

We shouldn't forget that Pu is a center and he had a strong enough camp last year that some people talked of him making the team. I could see him and Erod sharing 3c duties next year, at least for the start if he has another good camp.

I know there was RoR chatter before the statement came out that anyone but jack could be had

honestly I see mittelstadt playing on jack's wing from day 1

I doubt ror gets traded anytime soon, perhaps when either asplund or davidsson become established nhl players

- homiedclown

I agree. The only way I see Ror being traded would be for a 1st line Dman. That probably wouldn't happen until the offseason.

Maybe the luck in Buffalo is changing.

Maybe we make a run and get the Philly luck and move from 12 to 2.

I'd rather enjoy watching the games than wanting to gouge my eyes out.

So what's going to happen (and I know it won't, but stranger things have happened) If they go something like 19-10-3 the rest of the way? Is suicide hotline going to need to open another call center for Sabres fans? Let's say they've "finally gotten it", finally figured it out. They've "learned how to win". Is that such a bad thing heading into next year? What if Kane really IS the problem, ala Miroslav Satan (when Drury and Briere basically ran that mf'er out of town and they vaulted to the top of the league the next season the team played)?
