The leading scorer in the league wasn't even a first round pick.
6 of the top 10 were drafted out of the top 5, some not even in the first round. - Powerslave
Maybe u just don’t understand what “success rate” means?
If 4 out of the 10 are #1 picks,
that’s not a 40% success rate & 60% fail rate
That means 4 of the let’s say last 16 #1 picks are top10 scorers
So that’s a 25% success rate
2 of the top10 weren’t drafted in the first round...
that’s not a 20% success rate
That’s 2 out of over 3,000 players that were drafted after the 1st round were a “top10 success”
Even if u just go by all the guys picked in round 2 for those 16 seasons...
that’s 1 out of almost 500

Pick one to stay long term.
Nylander or Asplund - sbroads24
Can we see them play for the Sabres first?
Although Nylander is struggling,
one would assume he’s still got the higher ceiling
No need to rush one out the door
Unless we think Nylander can’t rebound & we just wanna get whatever value we can for him |

Did you ever give up on Armia at any point during his development? |

Grigorenko, Girgensons, Hodgson (traded for), Kassian, Armia, Pysyk, Persson, Zagrapan, Paille, Ballard, Novotny, Kryukov, Heisten, Noronen, Rasmussen and Wayne (frank)ing Primeau all say "hi".
Identify, draft and develop. Beyond the first round.
Maybe you don't know what organizational depth means.
Keep praying they lose. And while you're at it, pray it doesn't embed itself into the psyche of your high draft picks. |

It was a general question.
Safer bet in Asplund, higher ceiling in Nylander |

AGAIN...
when did i say to not do that?
And you still haven’t answered...
how will finishing 6th last prevent the embedding of a losing psyche into our young players any less than finishing 2nd last?

Honest question.
Would he not be a very good player to have on our 3rd line?
He’s on pace for 17 goals 35 ish points playing 3rd line minutes.
I was wrong about him being a “stud” |

I get it.
I only asked as I looked up both this morning and paralleled their seasons of development, which was interesting, especially with Armia hitting his presumed 'peak' in his 7th season of development. |

It’ll really suck if Nylander doesn’t work out
Especially since we passed on Sergachev & Chychrun in that spot |

Is it skating that’s holding him back? |

The caveat is that if we traded Nylander as a throw in for two short term players that would never see a playoff game as a Sabre.....I’d be pissed
Edit- Before we ever saw what Nylander could do in the NHL |

Was his reputation as some kind of hoped for high end player more on Sabres fans, scouts, or both?
Also, does the overall high quality of his top 6 and his team overall help make it easier for him to produce? |

Here. I'll spell it out.
It's called "winning games". Finishing 6th last as opposed to 2nd last, with regard to where they are now in the standings, means they are winning more. That changes a player's perspective. Why is that so hard to understand? |

His line mates are guys like Shawn Matthias and Brandon Tanev.
Play him with Wheeler and Scheifele and he’s a 20 goal 50 point player IMO |

Again, I get it.
In general, I don't lament those that are shown the door via trade, unless they're moronic deals like Chia for example, and I this one doesn't fit that category IMO. |

If he is, than that'll not be know until next season, potentially, which will be his 8th season post draft.
Guys develop at different paces, often regardless of what we often perceive they're development should be.
Does he get the easier matchups on their 3rd line?
This will be a great example of a guy who produces in lesser minutes being assumed he'll produce more with more minutes. |

IMO it’s moronic.
In a month we literally have nothing from that deal.
They have a #3 D man on pace for 40 points
A 3rd line winger who’s producing and is a key defensive player for them
Roslovic who’s one of the leading AHL scorers and is now in the NHL
And Lemieux who’s doing very well in the A.
Not to mention the difference between the two teams in the standings |

Armia isn’t great
But acting like he wouldn’t be useful here while Scott Wilson plays in our top 9 is hilarious |

We clearly have different definitions of moronic as moronic to me is dealing a superstar like Hall, not a collection of nice pieces, but reality is it's been years now since this deal happened, and at this point, it should be in the category of who gives a $hit as all that can be done is to move forward with hopes the current GM is great at his job.
It's either that, cry to sleep at night, or just go become a Jets fan. |

He would be an upgrade obviously, but I have serious doubts he'd be producing nearly as well on the Sabres with their roster. |
