So if GMs were gonna use these hot & cold streaks to decode what they should give up for a player....
Then early in the season we could’ve gotten an UNBELIEVABLE return for Kane, right?
Or
Maybe other GMs just realized that a good goal scorer was on an incredible hot streak and would base their offers on what Kane has done throughout his career instead of the first 20games - jdfitz77
Maybe only a few gms really wanted Kane because of his off ice issues and being a bad teammate.
Now even fewer want the baggage with no on ice results
Also his 5 plus million contract is more affordable at the deadline.
If I'm jbotts I do not change anything, he's getting what he wants , a top pick.
Lock it up: dump a few losers and deal with the rest this is offseason

“Our top 6 is really good”
Another shut out.
This team is so frustrating - sbroads24
this top 6 should be good for 2 goals a game
if not, why keep RoR? |

I think you have explained your point well, I just do not agree with it.
The ufa guys and to some degree rfa's that are traded for at the deadliine need to be hot to add value.
Whether it's a small increase in value.
Why would a team want a guy (kane) whos putting up 4th liner points the last half of the season?
Kanes value absolutely isn't UP
Lehners value is not the same as 4 games ago. He has played well enough to have some gms feel like hes an upgrade to their current goalie.
Maybe a very small increase in value, but some increase - Boss34
I think these increases or decreases in value don’t actually translate to what the player gets traded for
Sure, Lehner is playing better lately
But does that mean a team is gonna give up a 1st for him NOW,
when a couple weeks ago they thought he was worth a 2nd?
I doubt it |

It’s confusing as hell.
Root for wins. Don’t ever say anything bad about a player unless he’s universally hated like say Chad Johnson now, but also, don’t think of ways to improve going forward. But while also not thinking of ways to improve going forward, don’t dwell on the past. Talk about other stuff, like all the goals we scored tonight |

Well of course any team will try to buy as low as possible...
but if there’s a bunch of teams still interested, then his price will remain high
Unless ALL of them just decide to go another direction
I bet there’s GMs who were on the fence about Kane
I’d say it’s safe to assume this slump probably made them lose some interest
I’d also say that a GM who really wants Kane still knows he’s gonna have to give up a decent amount to get him
It’s not like he’s gonna now go for a 3rd & a “C” prospect - jdfitz77
So less gms are interested because of the 2 month slump?
That's the whole supply and demand thing.
Less value now

I dont know if thats what was holding him back, hence generic word "slump"
But thats my point, either way we're still talking about a 30 year old winger with 5 years after this at 6 mil.
We should (rightfully) avoid mcdonagh for timeline/age reasons but keep okposo?
Edit: talk about missing the point though lol - Sabresfan-365
Who is taking Okposo with what he has left on his deal for anything other than a salary dump deal, and even then, it's doubtful. |

well that's what it'd be, a salary dump. take some short term dead weight back while a contender gets a top 6 forward out of okposo for this year and next. |

My favourite is the core players that make up a 30th place team are too good to be moved.
I don't even know what to say to that one. Just accept that the reason they're bad is because of their bottom 6 and coaching?
Youd think if it were that easy to fix it wouldn't take 2 GMs and 2 coaches. Who apparently all suck |

At best, the short term dead weight coming back would be at least Pominville like, right, as in 2 years left at similar money? |

sounds about right. This team in all likelihood is setting up for a run coming out of the gate post lockout.
So if the 2 years can buy you that extra 3 when you're competing its probably worth it.
It's also why as much as I hate to admit it it's probably not a good idea to buyout bogo. |

Kind of
Do u really think a GM who was on the fence is gonna push up (or drop) the price?
That’s gonna be determined by how many GMs are truly interesting in Kane (or whatever player)
Unless there was 6 GMs bidding on Kane (with serious offers) and now there’s only 1 or 2...
then i could see a drop
Like i said before...
What we end up getting for Kane is more likely to be determined by whether or not guys like Nash & Grabner become available,
than if Kane scores 2 more goals before the deadline or 5 more goals before the deadline
Can they get a decent goal scorer at a cheaper price
That could cause an actual drop in Kane’s value |

The problem is not that ROR and Okposo are so good. The problem is clearly their deals, and if you want to dump their salaries, you're likely taking garbage back on more than a one year deal to make the money work, which means in many ways you're ok with the team sucking for very likely 2 more seasons, unless you think you can magically turn around another teams "dead weight". |

If he was truly offered 2 firsts for a pending UFA, than that's the first unforgivable mistake he's made as a GM. |

Everyone agrees he's not a core player, and that he's a supporting player.
His contract is a huge hindrance to getting much of anything of value back. |
