Didn't Lafontaine (hockey guy) hire Tim Murray?

The hockey ops role would have been good at the beginning to avoid hiring the wrong guy.

They had that guy and he wound up a) hiring the wrong guy

b) trying to micromanage him (which was so (frank)ing stupid, anyone who'd speak to Tim for more than 5 minutes would have known that was never going to happen lol)

c) wound up being forced out of an organization for the 2nd time

They seem to have figured out the right guy to take the reins both at the NHL and AHL level.

The need for a VP kinda expired when we chose to just go through hell with TM.

- Sabresfan-365

meh...they brought in a hockey guy who was had a short stint on long island in the hockey dept. and was with the nhl in promotions before coming to buffalo...he was hired to oversee what his gm (murray) was doing then, from what I gathered (and was told) had a take me or leave me moment in a dispute with upper management...

he left in a huff is how I heard it went down...

that said, my hope is that botts can somehow rectify the situation and in doing so, eventually grow with and lead the hockey department...key word 'hope'

Tim Murray never saw the big picture. He saw guys he liked when he scouted and had to have them.

Hudson Fasching is tearing it up in the NHL, I mean AHL, I mean no he isn’t.

Back when Myers looked really good. Few years made for a big difference.

Also he was a regier guy. Darcy gave him the $$$

- Boss34

myers is just one of a growing number that have had their development stunted in buffalo and if they're ever going to get out of this, they're going to need to fix that part of the equation

Pretty sure Myers would have difficult to move. He wasn't playing well and was making way too much $. Only way was to take a similar player i n the same situation. Poor on ice and making too much.

Myers was good as a rookie, but he fell off big time

Vancouver offered us a 1st and Shinkaruk for him at the ‘14 draft (supposedly) and Murray said no.

And if he was terrible.....how did he effect us getting Eichel then?

The point overall just makes 0 sense, and is a poor excuse for an all time bad trade for a rebuilding team

You are correct. It was Kim Pegula who stuck her nose where it doesn't belong. Hopefully she and Terry have learned to not micro-manage.

Botterill has the right plan and direction for this team. He needs time and he needs to do it his way without interference from Kim.

What do you think caused the stunting?
Rushing players?
Bad coaching?

It's strange, over the years as a sabres fan seams like guys come in as rookies and never live up too the hype.
Except eichel

Barasso
Ray Shepard
Pierre
Ennis
Myers
Girgs
McCabe
Risto ( to some degree)
Afinaganov

To name a few

If it makes you guys feel any better, Maurice’s over-reliance on Tyler Myers will likely knock us out of the playoffs. The guy is horribad.

Barrasso had issues. His daughter got sick and he went loony. Alcohol, among other things. However, he was spectacular his first few years here, winning Vezina trophy, rookie of the year. Went on to win cups with Pittsburgh. I'd say his career went just fine.

Pierre was a little too soft for my liking, but the guy had over 1,000 points in this league, and netted us LaFontaine.

Max - and I'm no fan - was, what, a 5th round pick? He lived up to every expectation, just based on that alone.

I'll definitely give you the rest, but I think Risto is what he is. A 40pt defenseman who is getting better at being the physical presence we need.

It be Danny 2.0 yes the goal totals are big concern but I look at the roster make up and the only player I see there is Keller

I think Bringing him to a place That is a Hockeytown would do him some good ( yes we suck but he will get a chance to play with a franchise player )

- GERBE!!!75PTS

Sure, except Briere was actually good in Phoenix before the trade, he had 32 goals the year before the trade and 17 in the season he was traded.

Ok, but how do we know this though?
We don’t even know what his blueprint is.
Wilson, Nolan, Tennyson, Criscarlo, Pouloiut, etc.
those moves don’t overwhelm me to be sure.
Mittlestadt fell to him.

I want to believe, but it is simply more hope than any evidence so far.

I could not agree with you more on most of what you say, but....the Amerks roster has to be comprised of some vets, those are league rules. Bucky Gleason wrote a good article 2weeks ago...it called most of this out. The only one at this point I do give patience to is Botteril. Hope he $#1tcans Phyllis in two months, to the day the season ends. A better coach would have got a greater result with this roster.

Wayne wasn't traded until he started to decline
Eichel is becoming a star.

Jbotts watched Crosby and Malkin
Now eichel and mitts is the plan

Listen to Stan Fichler when he talks about the New York teams, mentions the Rangers, Islanders and the Devils but never the Sabres. He said he doesn't consider the Sabres a " New York Team". He's another nut.
- SABRES 89

It's because he's talking about New York City, not state. Hence the Devils mention even though they're in Jersey.

For any young player to succeed, they need solid, professional vets to show them the ropes. Listen to any great player's retirement speech, and they all name a player that shaped them as a player trying to break into the league. Vets are important at all levels. Bucky's an ass.

What do you mean ?
He was an ahl all-star

Imagine if we had him and not eichel.
This board would be brutal.

Sabres have been playing good hockey, bad breaks last night. Also bad shot accuracy the past couple

Thanks for the info. You're not thanked enough for it.

If Kane nets us a good prospect, the rest is just gravy at this point. Not like gm's are beating down the doors for the slugs we have to offer.
