Would have been nice to put Baptiste on a scoring line after scoring a goal on the 4th line. Isn't that how earning it is supposed to work? - jcragcrumple
That is exactly how it should work.
Baptiste's goal wasn't a fluke or a dirty area rebound either...he beat a good player with speed and had a nice finish. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark! |

Why Not? He looks ready.
Just my opinion, but I see the sabres adding a bunch of college free agents to round out the tank.
Similar to Nelson, cj Smith, e rod, Malone?
Their agents have to like the oppurtunity here in buffalo - Boss34
Oh I know he’s ready I just don’t like the idea of burning one year of his contract with the up and coming lockout and how good he’s going to be |

IMO I always thought Bap was the better player over Bailey in that draft class. He has better wheels and can finish. It's a shame they have not given him a legit shot in the top 6, but have held on to hope that Bailey will figure it out one of these day. |

I get the contract part , but I think there's an unwritten agreement.
He should have gone top 3.
Imagine if he plays year 2 in college, then says
"I have always promised my parents that I would graduate from college " |

In the next 3 years, with incentives, he could make close to 9 million dollars, and then be eligible for a huge raise.
Multimillionaire by age 20, or communications degree at 22.
Which do you choose?

I understand that part but I hate burning a year on his contract when you know he's going to be elite you want to have that small contract for that period of time so you can fill your roster and win a cup |

Sometimes you get an English degree and end up in the construction industry. There are not as many Lord Byron admirers in the trades as you might imagine |

If I was in his shoes I would graduate college and then Test free agency and pick the place that I would be most successful in and get my $1000000 bonus ..

Summer of 2019, the Sabres will have 36 mil in cap space. That shouldn't even be a consideration imo |

He really has no choice. That's his only leverage.
Although a few guys have stayed and cashed in later. |

I see that side too, but you pretty much have him for 11 years like jack.
I wouldn't be too worried about 2030.
Sign him, get his feet wet with a few games, send him to Rochester for the playoff run.
Give the fans a glimpse. Make sure bottoom 3 is locked in, then start playing babtiste - eichel- mitts

Sure. I just dont see it as realistic, assuming the Sabres give an offer this year. He's a top-10 pick with a chance to extend his prime earning years by 3 years. That means he'll get his first raise sooner, and he'll have an extra paycheck at the end of his career. |

I go back and forth. I'm on the Baptiste bandwagon now, but could change. Both just need to put it together. Baptiste has a better scoring touch, but Bailey is more physical. Both could be effective scorers if they take that next step. You're right though, shame we can't get a better view of these players in a top6 role. |

Sounds like you're talking about Mittlestadt. He wouldn't burn a year on his ELC unless he plays 10 games in the NHL. From his standpoint, it doesn't make a lot of sense to play professionally this season.

I was thinking he burns a year of his contract if he plays in the AHL or one game in the NHL ?

He may not even sign here. Does anybody ever bring this point up (besides me), or am I the only doucher ? I can see him playing 4 years of college then becoming a UFA.

Sam played the 9 games his first year, so that makes sense.
Why wouldn't Casey want to live the dream of playing in the nhl? |

I used to be excited about Fasching, Bailey, and Baptiste. They've all had opportunities. They all failed to stick with this team out of the last two training camps. When they get their call ups, they show a little something for a game or two, then slide down to the 4th line/press box, then go back to Rochester. There's something we aren't seeing, and it's happened with both Byslma/GMTM, and Phil/JB. I don't see them as top 6 prospects anymore. Maybe it was optimistic in the first place. |

He's too young. His contract slides, same as Nylander. Nelson, Fasching, Smith, etc. are older, they burn a year.
