He may not even sign here. Does anybody ever bring this point up (besides me), or am I the only doucher ? I can see him playing 4 years of college then becoming a UFA.

You can always go back to college. But if you stay in college and have a career ending injury, you're never gonna get the money.

I brought it up, but the consensus is he would want to sign and take the cash over the degree.

He's a elite prospect I just can't see a player with his talent level staying when he can easily take summer classes

The last person that was drafted that high and stayted was Blake wheeler that's the only person I can think of as of right now

Sam played the 9 games his first year, so that makes sense.

Why wouldn't Casey want to live the dream of playing in the nhl?

- Boss34

Bunch of reasons....

he wouldn't burn a year on his deal
he's 19 and will have played a long college season + playoffs + WJ
he needs to add some strength this summer to play in NHL next year
there's no upside for him, he's expected to play well
token games at the end of the season is a very awkward thing
the Sabres have a transaction limit
it's a carrot for college UFA's

He's too young. His contract slides, same as Nylander. Nelson, Fasching, Smith, etc. are older, they burn a year.

I think you have too. If Homie is right about a possible lockout in 2020 and we don’t sign him now that leaves him one year away from being to sign wherever he wants if we don’t sign him when his season ends at Minnesota. I’d be tempted to sign with the Wild if I were him

I used to be excited about Fasching, Bailey, and Baptiste. They've all had opportunities. They all failed to stick with this team out of the last two training camps. When they get their call ups, they show a little something for a game or two, then slide down to the 4th line/press box, then go back to Rochester. There's something we aren't seeing, and it's happened with both Byslma/GMTM, and Phil/JB. I don't see them as top 6 prospects anymore. Maybe it was optimistic in the first place.
- Lunaion

Zemgus is playing top6 and I think Bailey/Baptiste are already better than him. So I disagree, I think they're better labeled as "middle6" prospects since they aren't 1st or 4th line material. At the same point, Bailey looked good before his injury and Baptiste almost exclusively got bottom6 minutes.

I don't know how the breakdown looks, but I know he's played a lot with Nolan and Pouliot. It's going to be tough to showcase your stuff on a line with players like that. I have my reservations about Bailey, but really think Baptiste still has the potential to be something.

Wow,
Someone on the board that makes sense.
Good points.

Really hope to see mitts this year, good reason to go to the games

"Hey Casey, when the NCAA season is over, want to come play 10 games for the Sabres then chase a Calder with the Amerks?"

I think JBotts says something like this, quickly, if that is the case. 10th game kicks in his contract, he gets to turn pro and make a salary this year. He reaches FA eligibility quicker and becomes a millionaire. If taking a year of ELC gets it done, they would do it. I think this is being made out to be more than it is.

Why Not? He looks ready.

Just my opinion, but I see the sabres adding a bunch of college free agents to round out the tank.

Similar to Nelson, cj Smith, e rod, Malone?

Their agents have to like the oppurtunity here in buffalo

- Boss34

What are people’s expectations for Mittelstadt next year?

It sounds to me like most on here are expecting way too much

The kid isn’t even a PPG guy in college
Even Fasching did that

I’m not trying to say he stinks

But when i see ppl spotting him in at 2C next year, it sounds like a little much

The way Botts has shown he wants to develop “kids” might even keep him in Rochester next year

I could easily be wrong here. All it takes is Casey to simply want to play this year, and JB being good with it. His agent should tell him to take his time making his decision and come in fresh next season.

Well, first big problem is that there aren't 10 NHL games after his season.

Really want to compare Fasching's senior season with Mittlestadt's freshman season?

Expecations? Start out as 2/3 LW and 2nd PP, let his play dictate where you go from there.

1) Fasching was a junior, he never played his senior season

2) I’m not comparing their age, it’s obvious to assume that Mittelstadt would be putting up much better stats at Minny if he stayed till he was a Junior

What i am trying to say:
Is that Mittelstadt isn’t having a special season by any means
I just used how Fasching produced more (the one season) and isn’t a productive NHL player even though he was more productive his last year in college than Mittelstadt is now

Even if u wanna throw that comparison out bc of age...
how about Kyle Connor with Winnipeg?
He put together a MUCH better freshman year than Mittelstadt & i believe he’s currently on the Jets 4th line

Your expectations seem more reasonable for Mittelstadt
I just keep seeing ppl put him at 2C
Or talk like they think he’s gonna come in and produce like Jack did right away

I’m just trying to temper all that a bit
Bc if he comes in as a 3C and only scored 15goals, half the ppl on this board will be calling him a bust

I find it funny that mitts looks completely awesome every time I see him , but your worried about expecting too much.

Silent Sam and his single digit goals and Nylander not scoring in the ahl- nothing impressive to the eye. - they can't do wrong
