Tampa Bay Lightning say hello.

I'm not here to judge your fantasy, only to tell you it is a fantasy.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have a winning Roster - and let's say you're right its a dream roster - how did they do in the playoffs last year?

Lies, damn lies, statistics.

Yes we lose. The more important question is HOW do we lose.

No offense to you directly, you just happen to be the voice expressing what many others feel...however, I don’t agree with the observation we are close, only need a couple of players.

-The Top 6 will likely need 3 higher-end players by itself, especially when (if) Kane is traded. Jack, ROR and Okposo are fine. Sam is playing better, but he isn’t fast enough to play in Housley desired system. Nylander, while still young has shown exactly zero signs of life...not ruling him out, but looks much closer to a bust that anything else.
The Bottom 6 needs help as well, They are likely stuck with Pommel for next year, but he fell off a cliff in mid Nov never to be heard of again. We have no effective 3rd liners, those who play there are better positioned on the 4th line. So there is a need for 2-3 there.
- As far as the pipeline goes, Mittelstadt looks real, but we haven’t seen him in the big league yet...so there much hope there to fill a Top 6 role. Baptiste, Bailey more realistically look like 3rd liners, so again hopefully they can fill that role.
This nets out to a minimum of 2 high-end players based on a lot of hope the pipeline comes through.

-Top Pairing, where ? There is 2 more high-end players needed at the positions most difficult to fill.
-Balance of D, likely can make it work with Risto, Scandella, Guhle and McCabe...with Antipin and Bogo as the 7th in a fight. Maybe Guhle develops into a 2, that is a lot of hope again.

-Goalie, once again, Ullmark looks good, but we hope he can adapt to the NHL ... we have seen a lot of promise with him...need a competent reliever.

We are not close, yet. Need at least 2 years of hitting on draft picks...hopefully they can find their #1 D in the next draft...our at least a solid top 6 winger.

I'm taking account for a lot of what-ifs coming true:

- Winning the lottery to fulfill a hole on defense
- Acquiring decent talent through savvy trades
- The youth influx actually panning out
- An actual leader stepping up and holding players accountable

I'm not saying that it's all possible, but if the young guys like Smith, Bailey, Guhle, Ullmark pan out next year, then it's really only two pieces that could be needed.

The best team in the league, arguably, in Vegas is a bunch of cast offs. They found success. We can to, if we find the players that understand how to play with each other.

You are the polar opposite of hope, and I understand that, but I think adding the three below would make a WORLD of difference to the team.

-High end skilled forward
-Top end D man
-Top end scoring forward

They may already have the first in the system (Mittlestadt), and if they draft in the top 4, they may have either the D man or the scoring forward.

Getting the third of the three above will not be easy.

I went to the game last night.

This isn’t a team. They have 0 chemistry, it’s Jack Eichel driving everything and a few good individual plays here and there from others.

The arena is dead. No one cares. The players don’t.

It was the worst game I’ve ever personally witnessed, and we tied it up last minute

I understand that you love this team like when a mother says her child is beautiful when he's ugly

I just can't understand why you can't see the same thing half of us are seeing yeah they lost by one goal but in those games they could have easily lost 3-0 -2-0 they get out played mostly every game

Serious question: did you go to games during the Nolan tank years? Cuz 3 goals (4 if you count ROR going top cheese on Lehner) would have counted as a rousing success.

There needs to be someone in the room holding the team accountable.

We need our Briere/Drury.

It seems like Jack is the guy that wants to lead by example, but we don't have the leader bringing the room together.

This team is not sooo bad at hockey.

They just stink at passing, skating, defense, shooting, intensity, and lack killer instinct.

Easy fix: hire Belicheck once he retires from the Pats. No, seriously what this team needs imo is an old-school coach with some success under his belt, not a 40-something "wiz-kid" coach who obviously has trouble getting the most out of his players. Maybe Phil will have some answers next year.

Having said that, I really wanted us to go after Gallant when he was shoved out the door at Fla. We coulda kicked Bylsma to the curb and gave him cab fare to the airport, at least.

I understand your premise, but how do you hold players accountable for being old, bad or slow?

Larsson, stop being bad
Nolan, stop being bad
Beaulieu, stop being bad
Girgensons, ok you were not bad
Nelson, stop being an AHLer
Wilson, stop being bad
Joesefson, score a goal
Pominville, stop being old

Sorry there Kaiser, but go look at their injury situation then get back to me.
If you can’t see how good that team is, I honestly don’t know what to tell you.
Don’t take it personally, the Sabres absolutely suck and are in need of a massive overhaul ... they are of weak mind (fragile), not committed, slow and low skill.
Not everyone mind you, nope there are several pieces that fit long term, but to say they’re close is a pure fantasy.
Who’s dreaming here? Results tell the story, and have completely failed under two coaches, two systems and two GM’s.

How many of the players on the Golden Knights would be in the NHL right now or pushed in to a top 6 role if there wasn't an expansion draft?

Karlsson? Third line center in Columbus?
Haula? - Bottom six player
Perron? - Bottom six player
Tuch? probably still in the AHL
Carpenter?
Lindberg?
Theodore? - maybe with the Ducks, but he was constantly up and down.
Hunt?

There is something to be said for a room that is cohesive.

There is something to be said for a team that is capable of playing for each other.

If you have a leadership group that understands how to get the team to actually play together, then maybe the will start to figure it out.
