Would you trade mittlestad, risto and a 1st for jvr? I would. - Tumbleweed
I'd take Mittlestadt in a heartbeat. He's going to be a really good. I have not use for #55. The first rounder would be nice since it would be a lottery pick. JVR would be a nice pick up for the Sabres to help their playoff push |

With his goal against Anaheim, Eichel is the 47th player in Sabres history to reach the 69 goal platform. His next goal will tie Brian Holzinger & Rick Dudley for 45th all time.

I just spoke with 2 western conference and 1 eastern scout between periods.
I trust what they tell me. - garth
that's because they'll say anything to you to get you away from them,
I'm sure scouts and teams are going to tell you everything because you're just so special...

Leivo and Soshnikov for Hanifin is a better offer than Kane straight up because at least there's some control there. And that's still a ridiculously low offer. Kane is a rental, let me repeat, KANE IS A RENTAL. Carolina isn't in the playoffs right now and even if they made it in there's close to 0% chance they compete for the Cup. They're not going to trade one of their best young defencemen, let alone a first and another roster player, for two months of Evander Kane only to see him walk in the summer. Won't happen.
Also, when did Garth start replying to comments? |

I just finished talking to an NHL scout this morning. I was informed with Kane's goalless streak hitting 13 games, the Cane's will now have to give up Hanifin, Aho, a 1st and 2nd rounder for the services of Kane.
GM Ron Francis would be wise to pull the trigger now, waiting any longer could result in Francis having to trade his entire team for Kane at the deadline. Worse yet, if Francis isn't able to pull the trigger by the deadline, he runs the risk of attempting to sign Kane in the off season without giving up any assets. |

You're really just trading Hanifin and your first for a really good lottery ticket because Kane does nothing for Carolina. A chance at Dahlin is pretty tempting though. |

That's a lot to give up, considering that the cane's currently sit outside the playoffs. Their pick also may have a chance a Dahlin , a very small chance, but a chance none the less. I don't think Kane improves their chance at a playoff spot. They need better goaltending. |

yeah. i don't think it makes sense. just a lot closer than what garf throws up on his keyboard.
if the sabres want hannifin, it's going to take a lot more than kane. |

If Hanifin is available, and for some stupid reason they are looking to trade for a rental. If I'm the leafs I offer JVR and our first. The leafs can survive without JVR. The first will more likely be in the high teens or low 20s and the Cane's get to keep their pick. As a leaf fan I would also be willing too add little more, a 2nd in another draft.
The problem is the cane's would never do it. Why trade a young defensemen with huge potential for a package around a rental? But it is far better then Garth's proposal, but then again it would be hard to do worse.

Ek says....
On the Leafs...
Toronto is actively pursuing adding a key top 4 D-men with some experience and is talking to both Arizona regarding Hjalmarrson and Vancouver about Gudbranson. The Leafs are in a unique position of being able to fine tune, with their playoff spot pretty much set.
Leaf fans...Who would you rather they trade for? |

There are either two possibilities here:
1. (the more likely) Garth is flat out lying about speaking with NHL scouts.
2. Garth did speak with real NHL scouts and they fabricated the talk of a Hanifin trade "for fun" (to see what he would do with it ).
Anyone in the Hurricanes' organization who is serious about trading Hanifin, from the GM down to the lowest scouts, unless the return is ridiculous, should be fired.
As for Kane, I am not sure I would give up a third round draft pick for him straight up. The only way I would give more is if I could dump some salary, for example in the Pens case trading Hagelin to free up some salary after the season. |

I take Hjalmarrson. I don't want Gudbranson at all, unless he is super cheap like a 5th rounder and the canuck also take Polak.
In all honesty, I wouldn't trade much for either, but if I had to choose it would be Hjalmarrson

Garf and his good friend in fine wine and hockey, Elliotte Friedman, got a little drunk last night and responded to his own blog. |

On the basis of talking to garf I would question their job security |

One of two things is going to happen.
Kane gets the kings ransom that buffalo is asking for and Garth gets a victory lap.
or
The mob of commentors will be right. Kane gets a pick and a B prospect and this blog becomes troll central.
My money is on the latter. |
