The asking price is high since Nash is being offered a few weeks before the deadline. Pacioretty has been on the decline for a while and not half the player Nash was or is. Kane is going to be asking for a huge contract next year and Nash won't be!!! Nash can be signed for 2 to 3 years at 3 to 3.5M per. Nash is still a great two way player and good on both the PP and PK. Nash is also a great leader in the locker room and excellent for teaching young talent! I honestly hope the Rangers would just sign him on the cheap along with Grabner and just keep them. Both could be had for a stay at home discount of 3M per.

really? decline?

Nash last scored 30 goals in 2010-11. Pacioretty has scored 30 or more in 5 of last 6 years including the last 4 years in a row. i think Nash is the player in decline.

Amazing how Tsn posts an article about the asking price for Nash. Not long after, this guy posts this ridiculous conversation. I don’t know why the hell I bother.
- Blueshirts16

Well they don't allow comments on TSN anymore...so at least we get that.

The plagiarism is out of hand though, like he could at least say something like "I was talking to a team exec last night regarding TSN reporting the price of Nash..." but no, he has to pass it off as his own work.

nash preformed well with team canada when he had some talent to play with. given the right situation i think he can really produce for a couple more years. he is 33 so not sure i would give him a contract more than 3 yrs at 3.5mill but some one will....

Nash was basically the only true top 3 forward the Rangers had for years. He faced other teams' best line and had very little support. While he's no longer a top 3 forward, he's an outstanding winger to put on a contending teams 2nd or 3rd line. He's a different kind of player and older than Phil Kessel, but the same concept applies: Put him on team where he doesn't have to be the man, and he'll catch fire. Unlike EKane he's a former NHL Captain and a good teammate.

Eklund: Rangers Asking More for Nash than Montreal for Pacioretty or Sabres Kane

Nash is older. A UFA. Has a higher salary. Scores less goals than either Kane or Paciorett.....yuup....Makes complete sense. It's 2018 not 2010.

- BernardShakey

I would take Nash over Kane any day. Better two player and locker room guy. The Rangers will eat half his cap hit as well. Patches now is the better player, but some people like the idea of not being locked into Nash. Please see the returns for Hanzal and Ladd. Both worse than Nash.

Everyone is getting a first at the deadline

Kane = 1st
Patches = 1st
Nash = 1st
Green = 1st
Grabner = 1st
Maroon = 1st

This market is crazy saturated, and I bet two 1st round picks get traded at the most.

Any GM who gives a 1st for this poor persons power forward should be fired, then tarred and feathered.

It's just like Kessel was in decline . Put Pat Suretti next to a half decent centre and see what happens. Selling low on him would be a huge mistake, unless like the Leafs', you wind up getting first overall as a result.

Pacioretty does this with literally no centers. What's Nash's excuse?

Did I just defend Montreal? I need help.

Kid doesn't know how to score in the playoffs, I'd trade him a bunch of cash just to have him be my personal butler for the rest of the season. He'd prob score a lot more hanging out with me

Other than the 42 he scored a couple years ago.

He scores in bursts and still creates a ton of chances since he has focused more on being a 2-way player and has a target on his back because of the max salary he signed when he was just a sniper. I don't see any issue with the asking price now and settling for a little less at the deadline. prolly a 1st and prospect

In the same post you’re justifing the 2-3 assets (including a 1st) for Nash. But you’re also saying he’s going to sign for $3 million/year.

In 2018, there is no $3 million/year player that’s worth 2-3 assets, one being a 1st rounder.

Realistically, you’re looking at a 2nd round pick for Nash

Watching that season I remember saying to friends that that season looked like the softest 40-goal campaign ever!

...Anyway, my main point is I think his assumed value is based on the $7.8 million salary. I think if NY eats some of the salary plus the fact he is in the final year of said contract, they may get close to their asking price especially if a contender has some players banged up in the final stretch
