The amazing thing to me this year is how bad all defenseman have played. McDonagh, Skjei, Smith.. these are guys you expect to shut down other team players, not be turnover machines. Thats why the whole Shattenkirk thing is absurd. The guy was our top scoring defenseman which is why he was brought in... how bout we criticize the guys that are supposed to be good shutdown guys. - mdw7413
It’s all Nasholes fault haha |

I agree but for all of our defenseman to suddenly be terrible it leads me to think it's the system and the coach has failed to adjust. I'd talk about how much I want AV fired but that's for a different day. |

If they trade McDonagh, what about making a run at John Carlson this off-season as a UFA that costs you nothing but money. Not really a shutdown defender, and maybe brings the same attributes as Shattenkirk in away, but he's another righthander.
I can think of the perfect situation where the Rangers compete next year and loading up for the future at the same time, but it would require some serious recruitment and pulling an inside straight. - Pete V
Yeah I'd sign up for that. Gotta think the Devils and Islanders would be in on him too. |

I'll try to be concise and fair - the whole defense has blown donkey Richard.

So, Tom, I think there is a very small chance this could happen, but would you at least take a run at making it happen:
Trade Nash for a 1st and a prospect.
Trade Grabner for a 1st.
Trade McDonagh for the moon, stars and sky.
Make a run at Tavares.
Make a run at Carlson.
Consider brining back Nash or Grabner if you can make it work.
Is their downside in trying?

No, that's fair. That team would better than current one we're watching. Idk if the money would work. Gotta think Carlsson wil get some where around 7 and Tavares around 10(probably more). |

Pass. Doughty is great player, but he'd fail to live up to expectations as Ranger. I can see that from a mile away. |

Now that Porzingis is out for the year, nothing worthwhile will be happening at the Garden for a long time. Both the Knicks and Rangers are dumpster fires...Next 6 games vs...Boston (Loss), Flames (Loss), Jets (Big Loss), Wild (Loss), Islanders (Loss), Senators (Win)...

I'll tell ya what, I've been making some serious coin from all these Ls we've been taking. Makes losing a little easier, but still not preferred to winning |

Probably not, but that does not mean that you should explore those things. It's still New York, and it's still the Rangers. Playing in NYC has always been the biggest recruiting tool this team has had, and will continue to be.

TJ hates himself some Nash.
Which brings me to a related point, while we give the defense a bunch of crap and deservedly so, with a couple of exceptions our forwards don't defend worth poop either. Some of them never heard of back checking apparently, which is why the Rangers are getting murdered on shots coming from the late man (or second level which ever term you prefer). |

Skjei was awesome last year. This year he's terrible. His skills didn't erode over the course of 10 months. That's Lindy Ruff to a T. |

Just a word of caution, Michael Del Zotto was awesome in his first year with the Rangers as well.
