Have we ever drafted a franchise center? I know nothing about drafts from before the 90's.. but as far as I can remember back, the answer would be no.

these guys with their egos and thinking they know who to draft

There have been a couple times where I have been pissed at the draft pick, I will acknowledge that. But I also understand that I know so much less than the people who actually do this for a living. But, everyone gets an opinion I guess.

Why on earth would you go down that road??
Drafting 17 year olds is far from an exact science. And yes, you can point out mistakes, but there is not a single franchise that can claim they haven't passed on someone who turned into a star.
You make your choice based on what you have at the time and you take your lumps.
You guys are cooking up a recipe for heartache and anxiety.
Instead, why not discuss how we made every other team look like fools for NOT drafting Hank with any of the multiple picks they threw away on lesser players?

The typical ranger draftee is usually American with speed or an excellent skater, they gotta start changing it up. NHL is not a speed skating competition, it’s very frustrating because speed is probably the easiest thing to defend especially down low when you are weak and try to get to the net. Rangers haven’t scored a garbage goal since Adam Graves😡

in 1983 they drafted Dave Gagner 12th overall and really screwed that one up

Phil Esposito ultimately gave him away and he became a really really good player in the league

Because of the draft history, I'm not hung up on getting first-round picks in trades. God knows they'd be taking another big kid from Dartmouth.

However, the Rangers did write the book on identifying and drafting late-round Swedes. We can hang our hats on that.

Yeah, I typically don't follow the prospects enough to know more than the names of the top guys and generally try to remember that some people are making their living at following this kids and rating them.
But, I have on occasion looked at the finished draft and been a little upset the NYR didn't draft more Canadians. I get that I cheer for an American team, and in the biggest market. But, come on!! There's a reason that the Conn Smythe was won by a Canadian the first 29 times it was awarded!! A streak ended by Brian Leetch, btw.

So i did a little research back to 1990 and the centers they drafted where Malholtra and Lundmark. Miller and Kreider were listed as centers when drafted but not sure that really applies.

Kind of odd that in 27 years they tried to draft only 4 centers (really 2) and its considered one of the most important positions.

Kreider was a solid pick except he’s inconsistent. Generally durable before this year. I can’t stand Miller.

How id draft is bigger speedy defenseman (Skjei was a good pick- not mcilrath) and bigger forwards that can score, skating would be secondary. Look at anders lee, guy could be outskated by me yet he is in the top goal scorers in the leauge.

FriedgeHNIC: aside from Nash Sweepstakes, Boston’s interest in Grabner and Holden is gaining interest. Kovalchuk is eyeing an NHL return this summer and has his sights set on New York, something to watch for in coming months.

Wow! Inadvertently you may have just made Gorton look like the right guy for the job. Two first-round centers in his first Rangers draft! He's changing the organizations long held philosophies!

Put him on left wing and have Gravey mentor him.. Lots of similarities in style and attitude.
