Brendan Smith, trading two 2nd rounders for him and now this signing is probably his worst, but, like Jan says in this blog, that's a surprise to everyone - jimbo83
Yeah but no one can complain about that. I don't really remember anyone posting we shouldn't re-sign him after the playoffs.
Playing his 700th season in the OHL. Book is still out as far as I am concerned, but getting a player who was granted exceptional status in the 3rd round that his kind of measurable was worth the chance, even if he doesn't turn into anything. It was a good pick. - Pete V
I was deemed an excellent statused mailman recently and I got a plastic pen haha

To play Devil's Advocate, there the guys that should know, as is the case with draft picks. So, if Smith turns out to be a botch, it's on him. No GM is perfect.
Look at his short tenure as the interim GM in Boston, he oversaw the draft where they drafted Kessel, Marchand, and Lucic and traded Andrew Raycroft for Tuuka Rask!

That is a damn Grand Slam. - Pete V
This is true also. But I have to assume he has never had this awful play for as long as he has with Detroit. Some things you just can't know, no matter how much knowledge
Apparently, anybody can get that honor these days.

Post office in a nutshell...this guy I work with was found to be throwing out circulars (coupons, sales info, etc) and was fired...then a month later rehired. Then they let new people go before benefits kick in after x amount of days and don’t tell them shyt when they get hired

Smith was not well liked in Detroit because he would be good at times and terrible at times. He has the good part of him, and he has the dumpster fire part of him. Last year we saw the good. This year we get the dumpster fire part of him. Hopefully, we will at least get some good spurts of play. He has it in him ... somewhere.

Shatty is an incomplete for me. Wasn’t in love with getting him but it was definitely cheap and almost a no brainer. You saw glimpses of what he can do early in the season. The PP had a few weeks of buzzsaw potential. He sucks defensively but I always say, there are no secrets with certain guys and you get what you get and they got a very good offensive dman and more specifically a PP point man. Never was never will be an elite defensive dman - Slimtj100
I know you haven’t been around in a while but it’s blasphemy to say Shattenkirk is bad on defense around here. Keep it between us though, I won’t tell anyone u said it

So the Rangers can sell off Nash and Grabs, possibly resign them in the off season and possibly sign Kovy who wants to come to NY which I would entertain because I still fear Shesterkin not coming over, I think if Buch and Kovy are here that it would be more probable after next season....oh and we have the chance to restock the cupboard with real talent......not a bad reward for such a bad season

I am definitely onboard with signing Kovalchuk with the Buchnevich factor (i.e. mentor)

Yup, not so bad.
And we can have a parade down 7th Avenue showing off our copious draft picks as well. That will be fun.

Some things don’t dawn on people right awa...as for him, he wasn’t brought here to play solid Defense he was brought here to help the yearly horrific struggles of a lifeless power play. Which he will do and did briefly until his knee gave out
