I don't think Borgen is going anywhere. We have a seriously good offense coming in the next few season, and we have more open defensive spots than pretty much anyone. If this kid stays on his development, he's got a better shot here as an NHL Dman than anywhere else. - sskkoo1
Can he graduate next year and become a ufa?
Will butcher style.
Maybe we bring him in, get excited, give him a sweet leather sabres bag, and he signs somewhere else?
Not sure if buffalo is on his radar |

Would be funny if we traded with la for petersen's rights, or with ny for vesey .
Imagine having to give up a pick.

Theres always more than one way to skin a cat. If he gets us a dman now, great, do it. If not and we can get him at 4m or less and he comes out next year and plays better maybe we can get a better dman then as he would be more attractive as a player and on a cheap deal for a couple more years for whoever wants him. Everything is a gamble its always tough to know when to hold em and when to fold em. |

I like Reinhart's play with Eichel and he has really stepped it up in the past 6 weeks. But i agree, he should be traded for a good young d-man this summer. If you stuck Baptiste beside Eichel for the same number of minutes that Sam gets, I think Baptiste would produce at the same or maybe even better rate.

Everyone looks good with Jack. In 3 years we know he can produce on his line, but so has Kane, okposo and anyone else up there.
If he’s really changed Put Sam centering the 3rd line and see what he does. If it’s nothing, trade Him. I’m not gonna overpay a guy for the benefit of hanging on jacks line. |

I'm not a Sam fan, but he is playing better. (Eichel factor)
If we draft a nhl ready defender this year:
Dahlin (sure)/ boquist - risto
Guhle - scandella
Nelson, antipin, borgen, McCabe, blowgo
We may need a top 6 forward ( last 10 games sam) more then a #4 d

I agree completly, jack makes everyone look good.
I think his line play will be indicative of his importance to jbotts
Playing with 15 the rest of the year= see you Sam
Playing 3rd line center or without 15 = sabres extention |

2 x 2.25 = 4.5
3 x 2.5 =7.5

This is exactly what i was going to say.
Put him at 1rw and trade high due to good production.
Put him at 3c, sign cheap due to poopty pruduction, then put him at 1rw next year watch his production go up and trade for a good dman once he has a cheap contract. |

I think he has a little more leverage than that. If its 2.25 or 2.5m it will be for one year. |

I'm just not sold on him. Not sure of his value.
Couple 40 point seasons ( with # 15)
45 games of heartless going thru the motions
12 games of net front presence and points.
I'm looking at it as a sabres fan. Very little leverage rfa

I believe $2.5M is fair right now. If he plays the rest of the season and produce like he has for a while now, he could cost as much as $4M.
You need to be fair too in that he's been much more than a net front presence. He's been driving play, making plays, and he's looked much faster as well. He's been a different player, even compared to this prior two seasons, but he absolutely must prove it over the rest of the season. |

Seeing him in person, I completely agree.
He went from " barely noticeable" to "there's Sam again".
Do you think the disappearing act has jbotts worried about paying him?
