Without doing a ton of research its tough to come up with comparables on short notice. I just threw out a couple names from last year thats all. Fwiw arvidsson didnt do poop til last year if that makes a difference. Sams first two years were way better than his.
Spooner is a pretty good comp. he bet on himself and took a one year show-me deal at 2.825m. Like pach just said 3 years at 11m seems about right if sam keeps it up for the rest of the year. - TheHank
If Sam plays the remainder of the year like he has the past few weeks, he'll only accept $3M on a one year deal IMO. |

How is Sam similar or even better then Arvidsson, who had a 30-30 season last year? - kingcong39
Sam's 22 and has 116pts in 221 games
Victor is 24 and has 112 pts in 193 games
It's easy to make the case for Sam. I'm not saying it's true or not, but it's easy to see Sam's side of things.
Like I've said before, bridging him under 4m is job well done by JB.

Sam and William Nylander are statistically very similar to Arvidsson. I'm sure they'll both make the case that they are better, but neither have arb rights. Will be interesting to watch, and see who blinks first. - Lunaion
Nylander is better he already won |

That's a cool list, thank you.
I'm thinking Alex galchenyuk is a reinhart comparable.
Similar stats this year , although irrelevant
12 goals 20 assists.
Sam 2nd over all 2014
Alex 3rd overall 2012
3 x 4.9 in arbitration
Did Alex have a bridge deal to get to this 3 year deal?
Great write up michael! |

he's on a seven-year deal too...don't think sam's gonna get anything close to that this time round...
if they keep him under $4mm on a bridge deal that would be good...like somebody said, 3yr./$11mm might work just fine - Michael Pachla
I agree:
2 x 6.5 million
3 at 11 million |

I don't disagree, but they are are statistically equivalent. If I'm Sam's agent, I want him to sign first, them I'm asking for that deal. |

I imagine it goes like this:
Sam asks for a crazy 7 year deal @5m
JB goes 3 for 11m
Sam asks 1 @ 4m, making him arb eligble after
They settle at 2 for 7.5m

I don’t think Sam is eligible for arbitration
Also,
I’m pretty sure the award can be given for either 1 or 2 years |

Is he not arb eligible this year? The rules for it are super confusing and i havent looked at them in a bit. If not, then he will almost definitely take the one yr deal whatever it may be. 3m sounds about right. Jbotts should do everything he can to keep it as low as possible to make him more attractive to a buyer wanting to keep his qualifying offer requirement less after next year. |

He's not arb eligible until after next season. He signed at 18, so he needs 4 seasons. |

You are correct. I just looked it up and its pretty cut and dry afterall. He needs 4 years before he can file. In light of that he really doesnt have any leverage. |

He’s getting a one year or being traded IMO.
Either one is fine. |
