so can this be changed? - Michael Pachla
So many people want to dwell.
“A thing I don’t like happened.”
Oh well.
The question isn’t did it happen, the question is what are we gonna do about it. Holding our breath and sitting in a corner doesn’t help. Coming up with sensible practical solutions is the challenge. |

That poopty 32 points is better than anybody else on that long list produced.
You can’t get over the fact he was picked second overall. That doesn’t mean you discard him altogether - it means you recognize his production for what it is, pay him appropriately, and move on.
Your alternate suggestion, that we offer him in exchange for a valued defender, is NONSENSE. If he is invisible and incapable, as you say, why would anyone want to offer anything of value.
You can’t just make stuff up Broads, it has to be sensible. Keep Sam and his production, get over the fact of his draft position, recognize many others have tried his role and failed, and look for ways to improve the team that might actually work. - Der Kaiser
Because GM’s do really dumb things based on draft status.
Sincerely,
Tim Murray, every GM that traded for Chris Gratton, and numerous others |

I think Murray made these trades assuming that Reinhart was gonna be a stud also (with Eichel). Sam being a semi bust makes a lot of the other moves look bad because we ended up losing.
Kane and oreilly have pretty much played to their career stats with us, they are what I expected. A lot of people, Murray included expected Sam to be much much more |

idk....kinda think that murray made the move for o'reilly because he was available and (obviously) thought very highly of him...he now had a definitive one-two punch down the middle |

Disagree. Just call Dale Tallon. He might give us a 30 goal scorer for him.
Tallon
Bergevin
Chiarelli
Dorion
Lots of idiots out there |

Disappointment rankings of a 30th place team:
Sam - looked like a huge bust up until 10 games ago. 1st forward drafted in 2015
Kane - gave up a lot for a young guy. Comes in, causes off ice issues, treats women questionable and leaves on a huge slump. (Hopefully leaves)
Bogo- injured, can't score. Brutal in his own end.
Lehner - can't make the big save. Not worried about a 1st rounder in the nhl, it's not the NFL. But still, the 2015 draft was deep.
Okposo - paid too much. Health scare. Especially concussions moving forward
Ror - probably paid too much. Buffatax. Slow foot speed. Untradeable contract?
McCabe- promising #2/3 now a 5/6 realistically
Risto - looks disinterested in games. Passing issues . At least he's tough.
Erod/Larson- 3 goals each. That's terrible |

Equal. They all are mediocre.
Mediocre core + awful supporting cast = 30th place......in 2018 - sbroads24
The sabres don't have a core
Eichel, ROR, Risto. That's the the core so far
Skill, saavy, toughness+offense |

Yes, that moron. The one who gave Vegas the 17th leading scorer so they would take on a guy who has 45 points, so they could protect Alex Peteovic.
That moronic idiot |

I was at that "Zamboni entrance fight" game. Don't forget Wayne Cashman was one of the leagues toughest fighters and also a goal scorer. Bobby Orr even fought. Back then the Big Bad Bruins were just that - a team of goon. Back in those days the adage "if you can't beat em you beat em up" rang true for teams such as Boston and the Philadelphia "Broad Street Bullies" Flyers. |

peter Chiarelli ended the bruins drought with some savvy fa acquisitions and very little in terms of high first round picks |

Did Murray acquire anyone who met his expectations? Anyone would have picked Jack, and Guhle looks a strong pick. I guess Legwand, Chad Johnson, and Jamie McGinn did. I don't think any of the key pieces have. |

Don't get me wrong, I'm still a huge sabres fan.
Just can't wait to move on from this season .
Hopefully we turn this season and high draft pick into victories for years to come. |

The timelines just don’t matchup. That’s the problem.
Every GM makes mistakes. Murray made a ton, but the worst part was the timing of it all. |

My point is that it isn't just Sam who hasn't met expectations. RoR, Okposo, Kane, Lehner, Kulikov were all acquired to be key contributors on a contending team, and haven't met expectations either. When David Legwand is the first name to come to mind, that's not good!

Any mention of Fasching meeting Murray's expectations makes me angry. For that price, he had to be projecting top 6.

No. This is revisionist history. He was brutal last year when Eichel was out, and invisible at other times.
He had one good stretch last year with 15 points in 12 games I believe. Had 32 points in the other 67
He’s been a major disaster this year up until 2 weeks ago.
Seriously, wake me up when he does something other than tap in a rebound or make a nice pass every 4 games that’s talked about for days. - sbroads24
He's been way better then that last sentence in this recent stretch to be fair, which you're clearly not with what you wrote. |
