Cant see the old man waiving any of them, unfortunately...
- MattStrat

I could see Rowney getting waived if we needed the space. Nobody will pick him up and he'll be stashed in WB if needed. I agree on Reaves and Kuhnhackl.

Most coaches have the flaw of developing the trust of a player that is legitimately terrible. Babcock and Blashill have both done this with Glendening.

Not gonna lie, I get confused on this every year.

In basic terms, if we have $800k in cap room now. We could bring in Letestu's $1.8M pro-rated cap hit ($600k) with no retention. OK, that seems straightforward.

BUT when it's roster player for roster player, couldnt we just look at regular cap hit? If we send out Sheary for Brassard, for example, we are sending out $3M pro-rated for $5M pro-rated. So if the pro-rated difference between the two is less than $800k, we can fit Brassard under the cap.

Is this the right thinking or have I just made it more confusing? lol

- YouMeAndDupuis9

gives you the cap hit or what's left of it on every contract. The only thing I don't know is how much the Pens actually have which someone said was about 2m - a quick Google would probably confirm that. Capfriendly also shows you the daily cap hit which is why certain players get sent back to wbs (So their total cap hit isn't against the NHL team even if it's only for a day or 2).

Man, the Devils are crashing hard...If that last game vs them wasnt a B2B and the Pens woke up before the 3rd period of that game, Pens would of won.

They'll be a team on the outside looking in, in April IMO.

EDIT: just look at all the Metro team's last 10 games played records haha...couldnt of went any better for the Pens...well..sure it could of ...they all could of went 0-10-0

I think the Devils miss and the Canes sneak in.

It's hard not to like an underdog. Most plugs will skate through a brick wall if it means staying in the show.

It's funny, 'cause there's rumors floating around that the Penguins hate Sprong's attitude. He's apparently pretty arrogant. It's got to be pretty easy to notice flaws in a players game when they have an entitled attitude. I imagine it works in reverse for some coaches. Flaws in a player are easy to overlook when the player is humble and gives everything he's got for every second he's on the ice.

I've also read the theory that a lot of coaches were plugs like Carter Rowney and thus grade them on a favorable scale.

Latest DK article suggests that Rutherford is more interested in a 4C than a 3C because he is happy with Sheahan's performance. I think that's the right way to look at it right now. We have good depth, but not great depth. I don't feel comfortable sending out any of our current roster players besides Matt Hunwick for a 3C, because I think it would make us weak at whatever position the player we sent out was.

If they're after a guy like Brassard, that's a significant upgrade and worth the cost.

Otherwise, the only guys out there should be somewhat affordable - Pageau/Letestu/Plekanec. Those guys shouldn't require any kind of roster player going back the other way, and they're all somewhat interchangeable with Sheahan as far as who is centering what line.

It's all wingers as far as the guys who will get big returns.

To my knowledge yes.

I think that this may be incorrect. Ltir does effect the prorated cap hit.

Exactly and Wayne had 4 our 5 years of very open ice hockey before Mario came in...then add all the injuries Mario battled back from....

Not so much the injuries Mario battled back from, THE ONES HE PLAYED WITH

Mario played the prime of his career in a chronic injured state

Couldn't tie his own skates and would still put up 4 and 5 point nights

JR said they have $800k in cap space as of last week...so I'll just go by that
- YouMeAndDupuis9

I'm pretty sure that the prorated cap as of the deadline is at least double that.

As I read that article, all I kept thinking was JR finally realized that overtly declaring his desire for a 3c wasn't a good strategy. It's like test driving a car and blathering to the salesman the entire time about how much you love the car.

I don't see the big deal in saying what you what/need, It's not some big secret. As a fan you could see the Pens needed to upgrade their center position after Bonino walked so I'm sure all the league GMs noticed as well.

Tampa is set up to do some damage. Hear them and Boston are the top contenders for McD.

I hope they use most of that space on McD...

How many years does the team that gets the big TDL rental(s) end up winning the cup?

EDIT: Just realized that his annual cap hit is only 4.7 mill....prorated for this time of year it will only be around 1.5ish mill cap hit...thats just a scratch of that 6 mill in space : /
