Rooting for them to win, not upset about a loss. That’s exactly where I’m at right now.
I only got to watch the 3rd, but Pionk, Gilmore and Deangelo all made good impressions. Now we just need some game changers up front haha. - Bean_Dip
The Wild Card hunt is just too close to not be upset at this loss, even if the entire Hartford roster would have been dressed for this game. When the NHL regular season ends on April 7th, it will be a much looooonger wait until the Draft and the start of free agency signings. I don't want to experience that wait. To miss out on the postseason in order to draft higher is no guarantee of any future success. Furthermore, if you were able to draft enough high picks, there will then be some holes needed to be filled elsewhere.
That plan never worked wonders for Edmonton. It forced them to fill in other key lineup holes by trading some of their top future picks, along with top pick players they formerly drafted themselves. I believe their 16th and 33rd overall picks of the 2015 Draft were dealt for Reinhart. Then their former #1 overall pick in Taylor Hall was dealt for Larsson, followed by another high pick of their's in Jordan Eberle being dealt for Strome. All those deals were made to fill in respective holes in their lineup. Look at where they are today for those experts that had them to play the Leafs in the Cup Finals, after enduring a tough playoff series loss last season. |

It will be interesting to see what they do at the deadline. If 2 of Gilmour Pionk Deangelo work out we could be ok on defense in a year or so. Need a top talent up front though like you said. |

I want AV and his two buddies gone as much as anyone, but a coach doesn't have anything to do with Holden, Skjei and Nash's awful turnovers. Lets put some blame on the players sometimes. - mdw7413
Of those three, Nash's turnover was the most inexcusable, and due to his mental unawareness of that situation. But the fact still remains that they came out playing passive, & "afraid to make mistakes" hockey, which is why they were badly outplayed from the opening face off. That theme has been here for most games this season led by A.V. and his assistants. Until they are all replaced, they can trade to have all of the top ten overall picks in this summer's Draft, band the results would still be the same.

Great scenario. I'd like to make the playoffs in 7th or 8th, have at least one round to have a team to root for, and more balls is always better. - Fenrir
The more lottery balls they will have, the more lottery balls that Bettmann would have loaded against them. |

So because the oilers brass is bad it won't work for the rangers .. seems to work for the hawks , kings , now Tampa bay and looks like the leafs the flyers are turning it around . Now can you American a team that drafted in the middle rounds for ten years that have won the cup in the new era of hockey

I have taken AV to task a ton. But no way can you blame him for three turnovers, especially Nash's. I am sorry. Not on him. Plus, sometimes you have to Minnesota credit. They clogged the neutral zone in the third. New York tried dumping puck back to create momentum. Attempted to skate through it. Dumped and chased. Little worked. Tip your hat to the Wild and Miller had a late shot to tie it but Dubnyk made the save. Tonight, bad start and good job by Minnesota in the third. - airjan23
I agree with you on that all, Jan. But the better coaches, injuries or not, find ways to adjust their system. That starts with stacking one forward line on some shifts in the 3rd as if on a power play, based on who has played the better game up to that point, & then pressing harder for the tie earlier, once it appears the opposition has you "clogged" in that neutral zone.
Furthermore, they have nothing to lose from here on in, due to the numerous key injuries which forced the deployment of all these "kids". That, while the team's playoff hopes coming into this game were likely only 7 additional Regulation Losses short of not reaching the perceived 96 points it would probably require to just get in as the 2nd Eastern Wild Card team. (Last season, Toronto needed 95 points to earn that same 2nd W.C. spot.) |

How many seasons were the "Hawks, Kings, and Leafs" very bad for prior to those first two teams winning their Cups, and how far the third respective one in the Leafs may go this season?
The Rangers have been in the postseason for the last 7 years, and have played in more postseason games than every team except for Pittsburgh during that span. The last time they missed the playoffs in the 2009/10 season, they lost out on the very last game of the season to the Flyers in the Shoot out round on a Daniel Briere goal. Tampa Bay used a mix of higher Draft picks, free agent signings, and trades to get to where they have been with Stamkos around. They filled in some of their other missing lineup holes in those ways, which did not come from their Draft selections.
Now are you ready and want for the Rangers to be Coyotes or Sabres like for about the next 5 straight minimum seasons? If you answered YES, then good luck filling in those other lineup holes you will also have to, which you could not select via the Draft. |

I think he's going to be fine next year. If we can somehow get rid of Staal, the left side could look real good next year.

Staal won't miraculously disappear. Unless he retires, he's here to stay.
Tampa won't trade Sergachev. He's their Skjei.
And Smith won't look good just because you 'think so'. IMO, he should be shipped out asap together with a ~3rd. Can't have a lazy bum like that in our system.
yeah, that's one hell of a left side... |

With the words that Jan had posted Tuesday night, as to the Tampa Bay Times beat writer, Joe Smith, claiming that Yzerman had said in some key words, that "he wants to win and not go sideways", in wanting a McDonagh there now, you know for a fact (as with that Callahan - MSL trade), that he will hold out on including Sergachev as part of a trade to acquire him, or else the deal would have been already likely made.
But in contrast to the Cally situation here at that time, Gorton now has the control over Yzerman with McDonagh being under terms for next season, and can hold onto him for as long as he wishes to until a possible bidding war occurs. If not, he can wait just prior to, or during the NHL Draft to do so, if afraid that he would be seeking at least a $2M per year raise in 2019 as a UFA. |

Smith isn't going anywhere and Staal has a list of teams he has to submit coming up this summer. If we eat 1/2 his salary someone will take him, he was actually pretty good this year. If we don't get Sergachev it would likely be Foote coming back the other way which I'm fine with also. Smith will be fine, I think...... I hope.........well see. |

If Tampa Bay keeps losing, like last night to a Buffalo team without Jack Eichel, they are going to start getting desperate
I think they are either trading for Karlsson or McDonagh by the 26th |

I think they are still just missing one piece, I think they should do whatever they can to acquire that one last veteran forward, a two-way guy who can score and kill PIM's |
