You are incorrect in part here, tombotanko.
The Canes and Rangers have each played 56 games. So the Canes do not have a game in hand on the Rangers.
Again, the bottom line is that the Rangers are still somehow in the playoff hunt, despite their game woes all season long in occurring in mainly two long stretches, along with their recent rash of injuries. They are not the only team that has to do their share of game winning to reach the postseason. Their cons are those injuries, and having to play 16 of their final 26 games on the road. Then if they sell big soon, (making con #3), you can count them out. But there is a holdup to that dumb announced selling plan, since as a result of it, they have not yet received any worthy offer for anyone inquired about. They also do not have to sell for less at least through the end of this week, allowing them some more time to see where they stand then.
