Wrong .. you have to get high draft picks to get Talent
Unless you have a excellent scouting which I haven't seen in recent years - GERBE!!!75PTS
Honest question. How many scouts do we have left from the Murray days?
Pens seem to draft and develop as well as anyone.
Did Botts bring any over? |

You need both..
High draft picks don't mean anything if the organizational culture you bring them to is terrible.
The organizational culture I think is where Murray REALLY failed. Basic discipline didn't mean anything, in terms of performing your jobs during that time.
You need talent and organizational culture.
You can't have one without the other and experience success. |

I think everyone really hammers on the talent acquisition, but not on the development portion.
You see it with call the young kids up, let's see what they have.
Take Nylander for example, just because he's an 8th overall pick, he's done nothing in Roch to merit a call up.
Develop by keeping him there and make him WORK his way out. |

It’s believed Dion Phaneuf has been pulled from OTT-PIT game to facilitate a trade to LAK. |

And don't force feed a player if he's not ready, which we've seen too much of here. |

Just saw that too. Can they really give up something much here? With that contract? 4rd rounder and roster player to make room? |

Exactly. Some players just take longer to "get it". |

Lay the foundation for next year.
I know....I know....no one wants to hear that.
But at some point, a culture of we have to work each and every night needs to be established.
Not just lose for high draft picks. - gcomella34
You misunderstand me. I meant none of it matters because it's not 5v5. |

I still think we need a couple more leaders out there, but I agree. They're hanging with the best in the league. That being said, TRADE EVERYONE! |

Doh!
So Sorry...
I've gotta admit, I was seriously thinking you meant one of two things, either the season is over or special teams don't matter.
Had a 50-50 shot.
Like the rest of my life, I chose the wrong one.
My bad. |

When you look at the player development.
What could have been with Grigorenko if he was expected to stay in junior? and if he pulled the stuff he did saying he'd go to the KHL, Murray should have just held the line and say you're not ready for Buffalo or the NHL, same with Zadorov.
I really think Risto, Girgensons, and Reinhart could have benefited from more development time in the AHL and Murray sign a bunch of plugs for the short term to field a team and reinforce Roch.
Rochester being as bad as it was is what made this bad, there aren't many players across that two to three year period that are ready for the NHL.
I'm not really sold on Fasching, Bailey, or Baptiste as top 6 contributors. Bottom 6 MAYBE... |

Totally.
Grigs had no business being up here. Girgensons at least looked like he could hang, but seems to have regressed.
I think we were so starved for a winner, for talent, etc that we were our own worst enemy in thinking that they'd step in and make a difference. |
