So you are saying a team like the Flyers can coast until March. - MBFlyerfan
A team like the flyers needs to crash and burn in February |

Yeah, but the meme is used when someone jumps to a ridiculous conclusion, especially starting it off with "so you're saying", when in fact the person wasn't saying that at all. |

The only thing offered that was ridiculous is the idea that a team and a coach shouldn't consider riding a hot goaltender and showing urgency to win by doing so before a set period of time. It was in fact exactly what he was saying.
Meme's like that are repeatedly used when someone's point is confronted and they aren't able to make an intelligent response. In my opinion it's the equivalent of waving the white flag and saying "you got me" |

Well I couldn't tell. MJL made a perfectly logical point so I wasn't sure why you disagreed with it. |

I didn't watch cause I had my own game, but Bill tweeted out that the Flyers have 3 of 13 30+ goal scorers in the OHL. 😍 |

Has nothing to do with MJL, has everything to do with you saying PSG thinks the team can coast until March.
I don't really care what MJL thinks.
I don't think Elliot should have played that often. I also don't think it had much to do with the injury. I also think they didn't have much other choice between Lyon being bad and Neuvirth being hurt.
You guys are ridiculous today. |

Speaking of ridiculous. The contradiction of I don't think Elliott should have played that often and then I think they didn't have much other choice. Elliott played as much as he did due to Neuvirth not being available as much as he was and how much better Elliott was playing than Neuvirth was.

Are we still arguing about Elliot? Can't we just agree that Elliot was the better option but by using him as much as they did it may have caused an overuse injury? |

Columbus is a handful, 3 straight games 50 shots only the goalie and scoring talent of the leafs helped them win the game.
I dont see a win Friday, we can score but D and goal tending is another story. |

It was a damned if you do damned if you don't situation. With the way Neuvirth was say he lost games that should have been wins, everyone would be complaining that they should have rode the hot goalie.

Yeah, I never said anything about coasting. Elliot is not having a strong statistical year and fatigue might be a contributing factor. He's about to be 33 and has been a split time starter for most of his career, so his body isn't used to this workload.
Like I said earlier: it's about discipline and understanding that decreasing your chances for a few wins in December is better than risking losing your starter due to fatigue. Just because you play a backup, doesn't mean the team is doomed to lose. It simply decreases your chances of winning by a few percentage points.
I wouldn't be bringing this up if it was just this season. Dating back to Berube, the Flyers have had problems with overplaying their starters for certain stretches. Mason struggled with nagging injuries that plagued him throughout his tenure here. I remember when he came back from surgery and was immediately given a bunch of games in a row without a night off. I remember Hak riding Neuvirth when he first signed here then Neuvirth getting hurt.
If you look back 5 seasons, the Flyers have had injuries to the starter AND the backup during most seasons. That's not normal. |

Honestly we are saying Lyons and neuvirth didn't give us a choice but to over use one goalie. Who is responsible for roster make up? Hextall. Hasktol uses the cards hextall deals him. If we want better goalie usage maybe we should have gotten more durable and consistent goalies. Neuvirth got paid for a playoff series |

Yup. Given Neuvirth's injury history planning to use him in a pure tandem situation was always going to be a risk. I didn't like it at the time and I sure as poop don't like it now.
Why Hextall signed him for two years is beyond me. They really need to waive him this off-season and find a more consistent option to pair with Elliott. |

Slow at work so I decided to look thru his stats. I looked thru is stats at 10 game increments.
1-10: 6-3-1; SV%.903; GAA ~2.90 (~601mins)
11-20: 1-3-5; SV%.913; GAA ~2.86 (~628 min)
21-30: 6-3-1; SV.930; GAA ~1.99 (603 mins)
31- 41: 8-2-0; SV. 888; GAA ~3.05 (628min)
His stats suggested he was trending in the right direction for the first 30 games played.
During that bolded stretch the last 8 games he played were consecutive games (Dec 12 thru 28), 8 games in 19 days. Coupled with the stats of the next 11 games, IF an injury occurred, it likely happened during that stretch of games.
During that time, Nuevirth was on IR. So, if the injury did occur then, Hak had a choice of riding the hot goalie or putting in a rookie. |

I am not sure its fair to blame anyone here. Elliott was not overused...plenty of goalies smoke him as far as how much net time they see.
People are using the "well he never played more than this many" as a reason he shouldn't have played as much as he has, but that is a major extrapolation to it coinciding to a soft tissue injury that is predominantly the result of sharp force vs. repetitive action tissue breakdown.
He's a highly conditioned professional athlete with the most modern nutrition and training techniques and aides. Are people really thinking the goalies of the 90's who averaged 70ish games a year were superhuman? Face it...we just got hit with bad luck, nobody is to blame. - juiced
