RE: Elliot's usage
While I understand that you can't point to Elliot's usage as a 32 year old goaltender and say that is any kind of a smoking gun, it is naive to think it may not have played a part.
Elliot is 32 years old.
Going into last night, he played in 41 out of the Flyers' 56 games this year.
For reference, Elliot's usage through his career, for the past 9 years, looks like this:
49, 42, 46, 31, 24, 38, 55, 55, 31
Elliot was on a pace to surpass a workload he hasn't seen since 2010-2011.
Given this info, I think questioning the role of usage of an aging goaltender is a very fair question. - johndewar
I think in order to use that we have to look at why Elliott's game played totals in past season were what they were. |

That is a pretty good analogy for playing Manning and expecting him to be good - YuenglingJagr
This is an obvious veiled reference to the Sanheim situation. When Sanheim was with the Flyers earlier, Manning was the better player.

I think the majority of the criticisms I've seen as far as his goalie usage has been Monday morning qb'ing. - MJL
Your entitled to that opinion, but the fact of the matter is that I have held that opinion since he came aboard, and I have seen other posters question his goalie usage on these boards for years. Often times prior to puck drop people are confused by who he tabs for the net. At times, it is...quite puzzling to say the least.

That is a ridiculous statement, the reasons why don’t matter. It’s simply taking a real chance playing him as much as they have when he is on the wrong side of 30 and hasn’t handled a workload like this in forever.
Hextall himself has said that the plan going into the season was to use both goalies as a tandem. He never expected Elliott to be on pace to start 64-65 games and I’m willing to bet he wouldn’t have even signed Elliott if he knew his expected workload was going to be this heavy.
Also, your accusation that the criticism of Hak’s goaltending usage is Monday morning QBing is just as preposterous. I, along with many others, have questioned his handling of the goaltenders for years.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but, as you said to me the other day, it’s not a very well thought out one and it’s not supported by facts. |

I doubt its Chad Johnson. Buffalo wants to move Lehner for a bigger return. They can't trade both of them.
I think it will be Mrazek. Hell, I could even see us getting Pavelec from the Rangers on the cheap. - hereticpride
Pavelec is injured

The list of things Hakstol is getting blamed for is starting to get comical.
Let's add Provorov laying an egg last night to the list. |

I would say a more trusted player, they went with a VET over a Rookie. Since Sanheim has left Manning has been below average, Gudas too.

Obviously a fatigue issue. You're here every day and are on pace to eclipse your season high pages read. Someone should've benched you for a while. |

I think it's because they have a cheap owner. |

So who is the Goalie we can get?
We have lots of assets that will fetch what we need.
What how deep in assets do we go? |

If we can learn anything this season, it is that it is clear that it isn't worth letting young players with high upside play through their troubles at the NHL level |

See I’m calling b.s. on that; I’ve been questioning Hak’s overuse of Elliott all season and there were quite a few times that I felt Neuvy should have got the start for no other reason than to give Elliott a day off. |
