See I’m calling b.s. on that; I’ve been questioning Hak’s overuse of Elliott all season and there were quite a few times that I felt Neuvy should have got the start for no other reason than to give Elliott a day off. - BiggE
At the end of December, Elliot was on pace for a 65 game season at age 32. A full 10 games more than he'd ever played in the regular season.
I'm pretty sure a bunch of us were calling that out. |

Man, reading this morning that a Lehner and Kane to Flyers for a package that looks somewhat like Sanhiem, Lehtera a 1st round and maybe 3rd-4th round is a bit troubling to me. Hope its bull manure. - SimmerDown
Substitute Reinhart for Kane. Substitute 1st round with second. Substitute 3rd-4th with laughter. |

I am sure the flyers didn’t rush Elliot back to early as flyers medical staff as never done that |

I don’t care how hot a goalie is in Nov/dec. when your playing 3 in 4 you rest a guy no matter how sharp he appears and how poor the other one may have played. - Just5
Elliott didn't play every game in December cause he was hot, he played every game because Neuvirth was injured. |

If Hak knew what he was doing, he would have taken Elliott out for the shootout and Elliott would still be healthy. Right?
Now that that is out of the way, I agree that Hak's handling of the goalies since he has been here has been questionable at best. He tends to ride guys in to the ground IMO.
The fact that he wasn't given much choice factors in to it this season.
All that being said, the amount of orthopedic surgeons posting on this thread is remarkable.

Id agree there have been some questionable goaltending decisions but not about running guys into the ground. Like Hexy pointed out, coaches are going to go with the hot hand whenever they can. Whether a player is physically fit to play isn't on the head coach. That's up to the player and the training staff to sort out. I don't care about how many games Elliott has played per season and what he was on pace for this year. He was their best chance for wins when in dire need of them.

Hak can't seem fix anything without springing a leak elsewhere.
No Giroux is dumbfounding. - hereticpride
No, it isn't. He's been very poor at the shootout for the past four seasons: 7 goals in 38 attempts for an 18.4% success rate. Over this timeframe, Voracek has been twice as good.

Than maybe we should blame hextall for it since we like giving blame. He knew Lyons wasn't exactly ready and could of got an ahl nhl tweener to be our 3rd knowing neuvirth injury history and Elliot never being a workhorse.
If we're blaming people. Regardless I like to deal in the present and would like us to acquire a depth goalie either through signing someone from the Olympic teams or trading a mid rounder. I don't want anyone who costs more than a mid rounder.
Sanheim for reinhardt is a bad trade idc what anyone says. Look at what even mediocre defenseman got in hall and what elite defenseman got in the Seth Jones trade. Defenseman > forwards. Reinhardt putting up filpula numbers isn't worth sanheim. Can we just stop all this hextall who values his prospects probably more than anyone in the league won't do it. |

Again for all you continuing to argue Hak's goalie game overuse vs not since it is obvious nobody read article just in here wanting to see their own pearls of non wisdom.
You’ve had goalie injuries in the last couple years. Hakstol tends to play not the goalie that’s there 23 out of 25, 23 out of 26 games, that’s happened. Is he going to have to be more careful right now, do you think it’s far enough out in the season?
Did you say Hak or every coach that gets a hot guy and goes with him?
I said Hak.
Oh, okay I thought you said every coach. That’s pretty much how it works. When you look at the wear and tear on a player, especially a goalie, goalies get a lot of wear and tear at practice, so games are a high level, but 25 shots, 30 shots. They get a lot more of that in practice, so it’s more for me, whether a goalie is a mental fatigue, then there’s the physical fatigue in games because practices are much more demanding than games over the course of the year. Sometimes with a goalie, or even a player, sometimes you cut a guy’s practice short, he doesn’t come out early, he doesn’t stay out late, its more managing those types of things when you’re managing the work load. To me, its more the number of games for a goalie is more the mental thing. You gotta manage games, you gotta manage practices well.

i.e. perfectly reasonable to say that playing him that much risked an injury while acknowledging his play was worth the risk |

If the guy was healthy he was playing, stop this nonsense he was over used and stop bringing up Elliot's past games played. We do know he was in a platoon situation majority of his career right? That might bring down your games played. |

Don't trade a third rounder for a goalie!!! we have no good players in the pipe line, we desperately need our 2018 third round draft selection. |
