I still think this is a BS rumor, but..... Seabs is the kind of veteran D the Leafs could use. We never saw the Panarin or Hammer trade coming either. We will see.

Looks like nothing. Heard late last night from my guy.

I know this Seabrook/Gardiner thing was a rumour floatong around in December and, no it wouldn't make much sense for the Leafs unless Bowman retains 50% (and I heard that is not happening).

However, my ears perked up because a got a message last night from someone from the game who was speaking to an MLSE employee who is close to the team. So I thought there could have been something to it.

Hawks had 2 scouts there last night, although they might have been looking at Columbus more than Toronto. Boone Jenner is a guy I've heard they like and he may need a change of scenery.

On the Leafs front, a couple guys that make sense according to my guy were not playing / play up the street at Ricoh (aka their AHL affiliate, Marlies) - Leivo, Soshnikov and heard they've checked in on Garrett Sparks.

Maybe if it is bad, they will be more desperate to get another D-man, so Seabrook would be more attractive to them. Switch the player in return or a better draft pick.

Are you kidding me? For all of the "trade Seabrook for a bag of pucks" and you want that deal sweetened?

Lets watch the team fall into the abyss and try to mitigate it with entitled russians. Then it will be 2003 all over again. This guy I think put a clause in his contract that voids it if he doesn't make the Leafs, that he can jet back to the KHL. What the hell happened to actually earning your way onto the big team. So typical.

Interesting write-up in hockeybuzz by the Vegas blogger about adjustments Vegas made on the power play starting period 3 of Tuesday’s game and how that adjustment led to a score.

Why was it interesting? First time all year I saw “power play” and “adjustment” used in any article related to the Hawks.

So? I don't like it. Panarin was obviously good enough out the gate, but if he needed some time to acclimate then he should be willing to invest, IF IT'S really that important to him.

Why don't we hear about this bullpoop from other players? It's always the Russians who whine about being sent down, rush back to Mother Russia if things don't quite go their way. They are better now than they were back in the early 2000s, but trifling doesn't even begin to describe so many of these guys.

You want to play in Russia...(frank)ing stay there. Don't waste our time.

So does Forsling.

Hard to blame those Toronto guys.

When Babcock likes his lineup, hard to get in.

Frank Corrado, Josh Leivo, Soscjnikov and Kapanen are prime examples.

Leivo just came out to the media and said he just wants to play... just play me. He's played only 20-something games in 2 years. Great way to ruin a young player.

Gus has been up and down and keeps working, battling. He may have it in his contract, but he's willing to work minus the conniptions.

As far as Leivo, he'd be one to take a flier on for sure.

I read somewhere where not only will no one take Seabrook, but he is not going to waive his NTC.

One of my biggest complaints about Bowman is how he gives MAX salary PLUS NTC...is there ANY negotiating that guy does? Seems logical the more money the player gets he has to give up some flexibility. If he wants flexibility to block trades then he has to come off salary. Bowman has his hands on the Hawks demise, rest assured.

I wasn't aware that Forsling had a clause in his contract as well in regards to that.

Many coaches are like this when they the guys they know they can count on and then they have a few favorites depending on how they play, but Babcock at least is consistent with his team so they can build some chemistry together. Not taking a shot at Q there, though this year has been REALLY rough in regards to that, it has worked very well for him in the past. Unfortunately the chemistry (and correct collection of talent) just isn't there this season.

Really is a shame how little they've let Leivo over the past two years. Kid deserves a shot to show what he can do in the NHL and if not then he needs to be traded to a team that will give him a chance to play. He'd be an intriguing guy to acquire if we worked any deal out with Toronto (Franson and Wingles for Leivo and Sparks or a pick?).

It seems weird to be referring to "catching" a team when talking about getting a worse record, but you're right.

I don't see the Hawks "catching" Arizona, Buffalo or Ottawa. Detroit is only one point back with 2 games in hand, Chicago has the ROW tie-breaker but if the Wings can muster 2 out of 4 points that drops the Hawks to 7th. Montreal is 5 points back of the Hawks while Edmonton and Vancouver are 6. I'd say the chances of catching Edmonton or Vancouver are slim. I'd be happy with a 7 - 10 finish, that gives the team good odds for a top 3 pick (after the lottery) or at least the chance a a solid prospect should they stay at 7 - 10.

If the Hawks luck into #1 overall, is Dahlin a generational talent?
- tvetter

Supposed to be damn close if not "officially" deemed "generational"

He's supposed to be the real deal.

I'd LOVE to see the Hawks card draw #1...talk about teeth gnashing around the league. LOL...

Right now things are looking good for a top 7 pick. It would be too hard to catch the Oil or Canucks, but anything is possible. I'd hate to win a few late and blow a pick, ala Chicago Bears are famous for doing. Just tank the sucker and get one of those studs.
