At this point a supremely horrible idea. For all his issues putting the puck in the net, he's still technically a brilliant center in terms of 200 foot play, D-zone awareness, vision, faceoffs. I just think he needs to be deployed differently, and ideally the Hawks could find another center capable of replacing him in certain tough situations. His attitude of late has not been very good either. That needs to change. - kwolf68
Was he brilliant defensively on Reilly Smith's goal last night? |

Seabrook to TOR for Jake + .......
Makes sense from where I sit. Save $2.75MM in cap and Jake’s deal expires after next season right before the strike.
Is Jake really playing any worse right now than Seabrook?
I think you take that deal the second it is in writing.
And the potential bonus of if Jake is injured you can LTIR him.

Heard that too Rick. Thought the same thing. Sounded like Mike was hoping to play a trick on the other NHL GMs with those statements. - Justin Lowe
You know the Dmen Babcock loves - big, nasty and mean want to hurt you guys like Shea Weber, Pietrangelo, Pronger. That's why the Letang and Subban types that like to show off their pirouette skills are nowhere to be found when he coaches Team Canada.
So when he goes out of his way to praise an NCAA college boy like Gardiner you know he's lying thru his teeth. He knows he can't win in the playoffs with guys like him.

It has a button for "create a prank" right below the story and some links to fantastical stories on the right, so I'm thinking no. . . |

After digging a bit this exact first article I referenced was a link in a blog somewhere else from back in December. Must be bogus. |

A lot of rumours of a Seabrook for Gardiner and a 3rd rounder right now.
Heard from a source at the Leafs game that something is up but can't 100% confirm yet.
Hawks have 2 scouts there tonight. - Justin Lowe
Wasn't that some random guy called Kent Douglas on twitter after Gardiner got injured? Thought Friedman put the Kibosh to that one pretty quick? |

Please let us know what you find out.
I'd say Elliotte Freidman and Bob McKenzie would be a good starting place.

Johnson is a high character center. I also hear he's outstanding on faceoffs. I agree, could be a useful piece down the road, but all these guys are bottom pairing or bottom 6. Nothing that is really high end, maybe Jokiharu becomes that guy...and while the Hawks have some good players that are young, the top end talent just isn't what is used to be.
The makeup of the team is just so far off championship level it's not even funny. Hawks never had a great third pair, rather a useful pair, but the Top 4 was ELITE, maybe the best in the NHL. Keith and Seabrook and Hammer with JO or Soup was big time. Those 4 could carry a lot of the weight. NOW? Not only are 2 and 7 not what they used to be, but 7 is a shell of his former self. Then you have NO ONE near what Hammer and JO/Soupy were. Not even close. The Hawks also always used to be able to roll 4 capable lines. They had two ELITE lines, and generally a highly annoying and pesky third line and your typical grinding line. Then you had Craw backing all that up for 2 Cups. The team WAS great, but it's not even near in league with the 2015 team, LET alone in league with the 2010 and 2013 teams. NOT. EVEN. CLOSE.
A rebuild that needs to happen is unlikely given the contracts the Hawks now have gotten stuck with. I hope I am wrong, but I think this is gonna get worse before it gets better, much worse. - kwolf68
Keith is top 4, probably still top 2, but definitely top 4.
Seabrook, Murphy are bottom pair.
the rest? right now? probably bottom pair at best.
I agree with you on worse before better. I hope I'm wrong. |

Imagine in the locker room or maybe out on the ice the music is playing, Ulfie is instructing on ice and Joel has his hand poised to take the needle off the record on the phonograph. The players are skating in a circle . They are playing musical chairs. Who sits out tonight?
We are to believe that Babcock wants the guy who couldn't play on his Olympic squad because he was too slow. Oh so the Leafs plan to use Polak and Seabrook. Heck, my grandmother can join those mobile whirlwinds. Maybe you will hear the music during stoppage in play; Going mobile by The Who. |
|
|
|
Add to that...has anyone ever wondered why our all world coach has never been asked to Coach Team Canada? He is not well thought of with Hockey Canada.
Not taking away anything from him and for winning 3 cups, but his impact imo has been overstated. - TrueGrit
Can anyone name young players whom Coach Q and his staff developed into high caliber NHL players? I can think of just three: Saad, Hjalmarsson and Shaw, maybe Bolland. I think veterans like Madden, Ladd and Hossa were the guys who really brought Kane and Toews along. Remember Madden in the limo with Kane and Steeger? |

Actually not an accurate description of history. Babcock was only going to play D-Men on their natural sides and Team Canada was stacked with potential Right Handed D-Men. If Seabrook had been a Left Handed shot he arguably makes the team. Yzerman said the call to Seabrook was his hardest call as Seabrook was right on the cusp. I’ve used Babcock’s approach as an argument in favour of playing D-Men on their proper sides wherever possible, as there are obvious advantages.

Thanks for that information. I would have sworn one time Seabrook wad left off due to his skating as compared to others dmen skating ability. Perhaps this was on the hockey boards as conjecture and never substantiated. Isn't Seabrook flat footed and his stride is not so good. Although he did get around fairly well for a big guy, skating was not a strength. |

Hjalmarsson.has been criticized about his weak backhand and strategy moving the puck when on his offside
Can you name the long time Red Wing star point producing center whom occasionally played as a defenseman?.
Google search for all time greatest Detroit Red Wings centers:
1). Steve Yzerman
2). Alex Delvechio
3). Pavel Daytsuyk
4).
5). Norm Ullman |

Everybody has to see what plays out . On another note , did the hawks call up the other goalie from Rockford last night? I think there are a couple of teams at Johnny’s icehouse in the Sunday morning league looking for goalie so maybe Glass is heading over there. |

None really. Just remarkable how Federov switchs to defense and it's like he has played there all his life and is solid as a defenseman. Yet a myriad of young guys take years to develop. I just for whatever reason thought of it, so I figured let's see how long until someone knows. Duncan Keith had a trial or a game at center, too, and at that time the thought was he could be a good center if he wanted. |

Babcock knows Seabrook's speed even back then and an olympic surface is not a good mix. Stacked on the right side or not, Seabrook was not going to play. That's why the trade rumor doesn't make sense to me. But with proper back checking he would fare much better in playoff hockey than the olympics. |
