Watching the Jets game and Ken Weibe a Jets insider said that he heard the Jets would like Hartman. - scott.jackson
I’m sure they would, but he won’t come cheap. I’ve always thought Hartman would be the odd man out that gets traded for a defenseman.
Hartman for Morrissey. |

I would be aginst Moving Murph becuase I think with one more year his value will be alot higher. Q has sure not done him any favors. I find it funny that he always makes the young guys play on there off side and leaves the Vets were they are comfortable but in general Exp guys should be able to do it better then young guys but Q does not seem to think of it that way. Has Seab ever had to play on the left? Kieth on the Right? Kane or Hoss on the Left? Considering how much he has moved guys around we are lucky CAT and Nick have done as well as they have.

I floated this name within the last few days...but would you do an AA for Shaw trade? players could be added to either side. just curious. - frafra
The problem with a trade involving Shaw is he makes similar money and has struggled with Montreal. Still relatively young but has had concussion problems and other injuries. He may never be the player he was when with the Hawks. Loved that Shaw - not sure he exists anymore due to the concussion problems and other injuries.

I will agree with the review on Shaw. I will add that I really do not expect player(s) coming back our way in a trade deadline deal. Those would only be bottom line caliber and you will not receive a good prospect even for AA. A draft choice is the return Bowman should seek. Extra choices allow to draft under the radar players, "projects" type, high school kids, even players who missed time with injuries. Just wondering what was Sikura report and background when he was snagged - was it a 6th round pick?
Anyway, I think just one strategy going into draft is to look to select a top rated dman each of next two drafts. Would be nice if one day they became the heir to Keith and Seabrook. Of course i really prefer they trade up for Tkachuk. I would consider Hartman and Jokiharju just to get a top line tough player like Tkachuk. What else would some team take? An extra pick - we do not have a #2, correct. Have to give to get. |

Further, if you can garner a 1st round pick from a Stanley Cup challenger, that leaves the 'Hawks with 2 picks in the 1st. Which they could conceivably package to move up in the 1st round to a sure-fire NHL-ready pick. I would guess the top 5 in this year's draft fit that bill.

I am sure they would (as would a number of other clubs). Would make them even harder to play against. |

Samuelsson must be catching management’s attention. I know it’s only 3 games but that’s a pretty damn good start. I wouldn’t expect the Hawks to do anything with him but if he plays well for the remainder of the season he could earn his way to a contract. He’s likely AHL talent, but another prospect wouldn’t hurt. - DarthKane
Besides the scoring he has nice size and some grit. I wonder if someone who has seen him in person could comment on his game? Has he looked good or just lucky?
EDIT: Also former first round pick who just turned 24 this month. |

Trouba is a true young top 4 RD with size and speed. those guys cost allot and we have 0? So a scrappy 3rd liner and a bottom pairing D would be fine cheap. IMO. |

I checked out Trouba's page this morning. Is he injury prone? It seems like he has trouble playing out a full season. To give away assets for him and have him on IR would leave you short for players. |

Nice write up Justin, so my eyes aren't deceiving me, 2nd most odd man rushes in the league this year.
Shows you how quick the NHL transition game is. 1 mental mistake and odd man break the other way.
I don't know what the right answer is next year, but imo sellers at trade deadline.
Don't try to recapture the glory days by going after a $4 million dollar Shaw.
If you trade AA have a plan going forward because our PP completely sucked with him injured.
No drastic moves, takes time for 5 players, or in this case 18 players to work as 1 unit.
I also believe Hayden is going to be a big part of this team going forward. I think he will fill the role of Bickell before his play began to tail off, we really really miss the meat and potatos forwards with some skill |

Love that one
Another fun stat from the Caps game
Ovechkin played the overwhelming majority of his shifts against Saad, Toews, Wingels, Keith, and Oesterle...
For the first time in Ovi's career(978 games) he was held with out a shot attempt |

I just wouldn't think dsp would get that mad over something as dumb as that. If a black guy in the crowd taunted the Russian guy on the bulls or jj RidRichard with hockey hockey how shaken would said player be? I've heard way worse heckling in high school sports. As long as they didn't use a slur but whatever. - vandymeer23
It's a considered a slur in this context. It's basically saying that since you're black, you shouldn't be playing hockey, you should be playing basketball. Skin color = determines the sport you should be playing. You aren't good enough for our sport (hockey), you should be playing another sport, basketball.
It's really not hard to understand why this is offensive. |
|
|
|
As one of the non-white people here, I interpret those “basketball” chant fans as meaning he should be playing basketball and not hockey because he’s black. That’s totally wrong. He spent his whole career fighting against this type of subtle non-inclusive racism However the media definitely makes this worse than if black basketball fans were chanting “hockey” at Steve Nash, which is just as bad. I’m sure black hockey players have to put up with these types of shenanigans throughout their careers since hockey is such an overwhelmingly white sport and definitely a sore spot for him. Hockey is for everyone whether you are black white or yellow. The “basketball” chant connotes black people don’t belong in hockey, which is upsetting in this modern age. - Popsghostly
Thank you. This is very well said. I'm not sure why it's so difficult for people to understand why this is offensive. Brushing it off and saying it's not a big deal or that it's not a slur is belittling the entire issue, fyi. |

Shockingly, some find no issues with it. I remember "some" fans of a certain college basketball team calling a particularly dark complexioned player for an opposing school something like "briquette", DEFENDING this, suggesting "everyone is too sensitive". That's the fallback argument...we're too soft, too sensitive....as if toughness has anything to do with being a racist wiener. |

Right. It's just annoying to see people "explain" how something isn't racist, when they aren't the targeted group and that person just needs to toughen up, deal with it, or I've heard worse. Spar me the bs. |

I hear you, its really the offenders cop out. Instead of owning up to being a racist they blame the other party or society being to sensitive.
Glad they got thrown out

But I do have to admit there is a really fine line between stereo typing and racism its really best just to keep one's mouth shut |
