I am not Rick Nash's biggest fan. However, I definitely agree he would enhance our offense. My ideal lines with Nash would be:
Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler
Ehlers-Little-Roslovic
Laine-Copp-Nash
Perreault-Lowry-Armia

Peter Tessier: Jets lose and Trade Updates
A 4-3 loss to the Kings is not bad but how the loss happened raises questions and concerns - Peter.Tessier
I certainly thinks so. An accurate game summary. As much as a PoMo supporter I have been, I don't like hearing the "didn't adjust within the game aspect." But, the combination of bad penalties and questionable defensive play was a lifeline to LA, and LA adjusted.
Interesting trade prospects, hope Chevy can improve in the team. I will throw this out, do we need a goalie in addition? The pos'n seems a bit thin at the moment. I would like to see a Nash or a Hoffman for the drive. If Chevy is gonna go for it, swing for the fences! |

General observation that Jets have struggled recently against the 'heavy' teams. Is it enough when Lowry/Trouba are back and who come out of the lineup? Does a healthy Mathias add anything against heavy teams? Maroon or Nash look better after the LA game.
I love the idea of Karlson/Ryan but could cost a Roslovic/Connors/Ehlers + +. (no not all three of them)
What is Ilya Kovalchuk up to these days and how would that kind of depth look at centre? |
|
|
|
In all honesty, this team has looked pretty soft lately. Missing Trouba, Lowry and Tanev really shows against the more physical teams. I know these guys will be back for the playoffs, but we really do need to add more of a physical presence within our top 6, especially with the potential for some long physical playoff match-ups. As everyone has mentioned, a guy like Simmonds would be great, but I don't think he would be available. Maybe a guy like Maroon would ultimately be the best fit with this group. Or, maybe a guy like Evander Kane! Just kidding!

New Jersey has Kovalchuks rights, do they not? - CharlieDog
They do until this summer when he becomes a full blown UFA. The Devils would be smart to deal his rights for whatever they can get now. |

Well, he will be playing Friday at 2.40 AM against the Czechs. Who is going to stay up and do some scouting? Ultimate, is that you? |

In October I (and others) said the team is soft and regular season you can pretty much get away with it.
Some said that the game has changed, less fights blah blah blah.
It was never about fights , it’s about making the front of our net a dangerous place to stand, a scary place. Have you seen Tobias handle the front of our net???
It’s also about having a guy or two that can help with momentum with a hit , scrum and yes scrap!
If we left the deadline with Andrew Shaw and Ian Cole on D that would make a huge difference. Or Boone Jenner and Jack Johnson out of CLB then all of a sudden we are LESS FUN to play against.
Hoping we do something |

Is he fit? has he been playing? How much hockey rust to work out of his game? The only reason to think Ilya is a good idea is past performance including big numbers and leading Jersey to final. On the other hand he is 35 years old and hasn't played an NHL game in 5 years.

I agree with your post - who are you taking out of the lineup for those guys?

Plays for St. Peterburg in KHL, 53 games 2017/2018, 31 g, 32 assists. Currently playing for the Olympic Athletes of Russia.
I am not endorsing, was an interesting suggestion. Has 1178 pro games under his belt. 816 NHL, 362 KHL. Interesting discussion. |

It’s hard decision time if you make a deal or deals and let’s pretend everyone is healthy:
Connor- Scheifele- Wheeler
Ehlers- Little - Laine
Perrault- Shaw - Roslovic
Tanev- Lowry - Armia
Morrissey- Trouba
Cole-Buff
Kulikov- Myers
Enstrom, Copp, Chariot in the press box.
Shaw and Cole have 5 rings I believe, Cole has played 49 playoff games the last 2 years and Shaw has lots of experience.
Just my opinion but I think could do some damage

you would not want "heart attack" jack Johnson on your blue line... he is a turnover machine and a -∞ over his career. |

Not bad, Shaw is an upgrade - not a huge upgrade - over Hendricks, I would probably have Copp in the lineup for one of Roslovic/Tanev/Armia - mostly for size/versatility/faceoffs as needed.
I like Toby with Buff, Cole would be my #7.

Great 'location' - I was waiting for fans to start 'Dustin Brown - Flush him down' chant... |

Just saw online that Jets enquired on Hoffman but Wpg is on his no trade list so Wpg has moved on. Hoping the pickins are not too slim after factoring in the NTC's and the Modified No Movement clauses. |

Kovalchuk's rights would be a substantial discount compared to Nash or the other high priced rentals on the market. Doubt it would cost more than a 2nd rd pick, and that would give the jets 3 quality scoring lines. |

Shaw is a bad pick-up. I don't want a guy with his views of the world on our team. Yuck, can't see him and Wheeler having a discussion about politics. Would much rather have a slow moving Hendricks than that guy.
Jenner and Johnson on the other hand! |

That's the spirit to scout that game! My previous post said 2.40 AM, but that was ET. So, looks like a 1.40 AM start, don't even bother going to bed that nite.
BTW, I would NOT be scared one bit to have him on the team in terms of rust and physical shape, etc. He is a horse even at 34. I don't think he is 35 yet, doesn't matter anyway, but he is a horse. I know SKA St Petersburg is one of the elite KHL teams and he is on contract with them. So, their season wraps up in April. They play 56 games and I believe they have already played 53.
But, New Jersey is probably on that if they are a wild card team. |
