russia wins it no matter who usa had on their team - homiedclown
I'm Canadian. i beg to differ lol. And as for the U.S. they would have fielded i believe their best team of all time. |

For the record, I really was just going for a lame "hockey nickname" here - so please don't think that I actually put any thought or meaning behind it. |

However you view the importance of the Olympics. The past tournaments with nhl ers was awesome hockey. And many in the world get very excited over it including the players. id actually say all the players actually. This present tournament isn't bad at all. It is what it is. As usual here in Canada we have easy access to it on tv. After all hockey is our religion as you know. The u.s. as a whole obviously has no interest in hockey. So be it. Very sad however with the high end team the U.S. now can field. A team worthy and capable of beating us north of the 49th parallel. - ziffles
This is my favorite parallel too - washedup20
I like 69.
89 aint bad either.
19, and 39, well, meh.

He's listed as an RFA. Trading him after his last 15 games or so, IMO, would be a big mistake. If he's added into a trade for a better D-man, fine, but if he's swapped out for a pick or a forward I'll have some JBotts criticism ready.
Gorges may get moved after all. What was our bet? That he wouldn't get more than a 5th right? You could be right on that, I'm still hoping you are. - RhinoFan
He's listed on several websites as both RFA and UFA, but someone posted where he falls in the CBA and it appears he's actually UFA. |

Been explained here several times over the last few days. He'll be a type 6 UFA. It's triggered by him not accruing enough NHL games, and many sites don't consider that there aren't enough games left for him to play in. - Lunaion
Ahh makes sense. Didn't see the comment, just going off of the Cap Central on this site actually. |

Why are you so defensive?
What are you trying to hide?
Commys hide in the dark, that’s why Beady clocks in around 8pm.
*It was actually a creative nickname, I enjoyed it |

Nelson has played well. Someone said he was a ufa over 25 played parts of 3 pro seasons. Sabres website has him as a rfa. He's one of 5 guys I wouldn't move.
Friendly wager is still on with gorges

nothing will be as special as when the 80 team won gold and beat the russians with olympic hockey
nothing since has been remotely close
you can shut the nhl down for the next 15 olympics, and let the best of the best play and it still won't be near what those of us saw
unless latvia wins the gold and beats canada, russia, sweden and usa in the process
and teddy is coaching the latvians

News to me, but makes sense I've heard of similar situations. Hope they can figure out how to get the kid signed here. If he's moved I just really hope it's for help on defense. We've traded away too many young defenders.
I'm thinking Gorgio may get that 4th. Still shocked. |

It's funny, we may have flip flopped.
I based my opinion on Weber for a 3rd.
Not a ton of basis there, but :
Gorges > weber |

That much is certainly true. I just have read too many articles where it's said he's being asked about. A 4th rounder isn't much to give up, I just don't see what they're getting out of him. Won't be the first or last time I'm wrong. |

I look back at the Carolina conference finals.
Jay McKee went down.
Wish we had a gorges or weber
And not a 3rd or 4th pick.

You won in 1980 because USA hockey had come into its own and no one was paying attention. All but 1 went on to play NHL hockey. along with the coach. the Olympic gold is easier to win than the Stanley cup. Not just one but several 7 game series. Not to take away from that victory. You won plain and simple. Hats off, but not a miracle. That u.s team was very good. Just no one knew it. Back then a statement that "you skate like an american" was not a good thing lol. Today that's definitely not the case. It was the 80's team that helped start that. |

it was the soviet all stars vs mike ramsey, ken morrow and a bunch of players that never had more than a cup of coffee in the nhl
nothing will compare to that team, their heart and the determination for david to beat goliath
