How did Nash look in his debut? Or did he not start yet? I saw some reports saying he'd play yesterday.

He looked OK. The team as a whole didn't look great. Buffalo has had Boston's number all season.

Are you simply confused because it looks like the B's gave up a lot or just blind? What in Spooner or Beleskey was lost? What does a 7th rounder actually net you? They cleared salary and gave up a 1st and prospect for Nash.

Gionta is a vet minimum depth move as the schedule is March is about to get real busy. What has Chara done this season to continue your irrational hatred of him?

- glove_was_stuck

Two weeks ago everybody was saying they wouldn't touch Nash with a ten foot pole... a sentiment I agreed with. Today, people like you want to come on here and justify it by saying Spooner was worthless and soft as dog poo, or whatever lame analogy you used... When Spooner is producing at a higher rate than Nash is this season. So I don't see how it's an upgrade, other than the fact he has a larger body. That's about it. Nash is known to become a ghost in the playoffs. This reeks of them not wanting to pay Spooner after YET ANOTHER solid point producing year strictly for the fact that he doesn't play a strong two way game (an area he took a step forward in this year in my opinion). He wouldn't even cost that much over what he's making now.. will probably sign in the $3.5-$4m range if I had to guess.

So now that we've established that they probably didn't even get better by swapping Nash for Spooner... possibly took a step back, or at best is a lateral move... Look at the rest of the deal. They apparently DESPERATELY needed to get rid of Beleskey's contract, but for some stupid reason, they retained HALF OF HIS CONTRACT. So they essentially payed a 1st, 7th, and Ryan Lindgren for $1.9m in cap space. That's a (frank)ing joke.

Chara has been fine this year... I just question whether he's going to hold up in the playoffs when the game gets a step faster. I haven't really complained much at all about him this year, other than putting pucks in his own net, which was a valid observation. That might be literally the only thing I've said. I even said I thought an extension was possible, but they absolutely should not do it until after the playoffs to see what he gives you through the whole season. I just don't think he's Tom Brady like most of you think he is. In my book he's more Peyton Manning then Brady.. but hey... Manning won a Super Bowl in his final year playing, so I'm not complaining. Just don't be a bonehead and sign the guy for 2-3 more years like Dale Arnold is advocating for.

I think the biggest position they needed to upgrade at was D. If McDonagh was available, he certainly could have been had for somewhere in the neighborhood of what Sweeney paid for Nash + Holden. That would have allowed them to drop Chara to the 2nd pairing, and allowed them to manage his minutes even more. McDonagh even has an extra year on his contract, which is a lot more valuable than an end of season rental.

To say Gionta is an upgrade over Vatrano is a stretch... in leadership qualities? Sure... but he's possibly worse at every other facet of the game at this point (for the record, I have no issues with Vatrano for a 3rd.. he wasn't getting any ice time so might as well get something for him). I would have rather they brought back Kelly. You can't say Nash is an upgrade over Spooner... it doesn't look that way on paper, and Spooner put up 2 assists in his NYR debut versus diddly for Nash in his debut. It's just a one game sample and I'm not basing anything on that, just pointing out a fact. I think that's a lateral move at best for the sake of a big body. Hopefully he produces ANYTHING in the playoffs. Holden over Postma... is whatever, they're both depth guys that probably aren't going to see anything for ice time, so it doesn't really make a big difference.

I'm holding out hope for Rick Nash.. I don't want to hate on the guy... It's not his fault Sweeney got absolutely hosed for him.

TL:DR - Lateral move at best from Spooner to Nash... paid out the bumhole to get rid of HALF of Beleksey's contract. Could have had a better player at a position of more immediate need for the same price.

I mean idk boys Why F with something that's not broken, like many have said I dont HATE what they gave up, but thought Lingren was a perfect fit for the Bruins for the future, I know they are deep in D prospects but you can never have too many D prospects, would have rather had EKane for the Run, just never been a big Nash fan. idk

You can't be serious. I won't deny that I don't love Nash but come on. A concussed Rick Zombo is an upgrade over Spooner. You're out of your mind and went to great lengths to justify your bizarre stance here.

Spooner and Beleskey sucked and they were dumped as they should've been. No two ways about it. You gave a 1st, Lindgren and a 7th for Nash.

yeah this year. now do career.

that's the softest 9 and 18 you'll ever see. the coach didn't trust him on that second line. end of story. that's why he's gone

was never a fan of his. don't like his game. then when claude was fired and he chirped to the media that that was why he had a few goals in those games right after i wanted to kill him. because then he went right back to sucking.

but now i'm sure this change of scenery will turn it all around for him.

Im sorry but if still think Ryan Spooner sucks, I am not sure what you are watching. Krejci is the often the weak link on that line. Spooner has been pretty effective this year and has improved at winning battles along the boards.

That line becomes more predictable with Nash. The PP is worse off and the 2nd line is slower. I do think Nash will be pretty decent in the bumper.

For what we paid, there are a lot of players i would have preferred over Nash.

The trade may work out in the end, I am just not a fan of it. We talk about how the NHL is based on speed now and we got slower.

Exactly. I thought the kid was going to be much better after Claude was fired but it was more of the same. He was better this year but not that much. Certainly not worth signing him. He's hit his ceiling. This isn't Wheeler or Smith.

An AHL caliber player who is constantly bounced off of the puck, who made this team and NYR because of a re-tool. You're right he doesn't totally suck but is far from great or even good. Not a real top 6 player in this league unless he is on a bad team. That's what I am watching.

Not disagreeing on Krejci been done with him. Nobody is going to take on that contract.

Yeah not doing backflips over Nash but it is an upgrade over Spooner. Who else was available? Any realistically available player, and this fan base would still complain or make up some retannered scenario that would never happen. Like oh I dunno..

Aaaaahhh da Bruins aaaaaaaa should trade aaaaaaa Beleskey, Chara and aaaaaaa a 2nd roundah for aaaaaaa Tarasenko.

Past three years:
Ryan Spooner - 198gp - 33g - 82a - 115pts
Rick Nash - 188gp - 56g - 46a - 102pts

I can pretty much guarantee Rick Nash also averaged like 2+ more minutes of ice time, alongside more talented players too. So not only is Spooner the more durable player... he's also the better point producer. Fakts r hard

Would much rather add another piece to pry Zuccarello. Or send that same package for Domi. Or Hoffman if its possible.

I just don't think the upgrade of Spooner to Nash is worth the first rounder.

I mean this is a contract year for Nash and he has been mailing it in. Hopefully this turns him around.

No. The only valid point against him as a player anyone has mentioend is his playoff numbers are not encouraging. Not going to fault the guy however for becoming complacent after all those years languishing for CBJ and then NYR telling the fanbase they're going to blow it up.

Exactly what I am talking about.

Why would Chayka give up on Domi and for what?

Why would Gorton give up on Zuccarello and for what?

Hoffman will probably move and what would you give up to convince Ottawa to move him within the division?

What team in the salary cap era who is contending for a cup has not overpaid for a rental? Nobody here get's a good deal. Not how it works.

Just like you'll continue to hurl insults because I don't like your wubby?

EDIT: Also just focusing on this season, Spooner has been playing on a much better team. If he wasn't keeping pace I'm sure Cehlarik or someone else would be there and he would be up on the 9th. Nash is having a down year. Nobody is denying that. He is still an upgrade and by the time this year is out, you will see that barring injury.
